Getafe Lose Big in Away Match with Barcelona
When Getafe CF played FC Barcelona in the fall, they managed to hold the 2014 – 2015 La Liga frontrunners to a scoreless draw. It may not have been a victory, but for Getafe’s Deep Blues—who finished in 13th place last season, and who will likely finish in a similar position this year—it was a good sign. After all, if the football club could manage a clean sheet against one of the greatest offensive lineups in sports, then perhaps they had a chance to crack the top 10 for the 2014 – 2015 La Liga. Home fans in the Getafe shirt were pleased with the outcome.
If the Deep Blues got lucky in their December 13th home game with Barcelona, though, they were anything but fortunate in their April 28th rematch with the club. With the home field advantage shifting in favor of Barca, Getafe CF fell 0-6 in what now stands as their worst loss of the 2014 – 2015 season so far. Help the football squad pick themselves up for the final weeks of the La Liga campaign, with a new Getafe home jersey 2014 – 2015 from Soccer Box.

In December, when the Deep Blues donned the Getafe home jersey 2014 – 2015 for a match against Barca, they never got the upper hand, but they never really lost it either. FCB controlled the ball for two-thirds of the match and tallied five times as many wide or on-target shots. However, with a strong performance from Getafe goalkeeper Guaita, the home side was able to keep Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez from ever finding the back of the net—not a small feat by any means.
Contrast that with the April 28th clash between these two teams at Camp Nou, and the Deep Blues looked almost like a different soccer squad altogether. Guaita was back in the net, but he couldn’t block much of anything, allowing Messi, Neymar, Suarez, and Xavi Hernandez to all score goals within the first 30 minutes of play.
By halftime, Barca had added another goal—a 40-minute strike from Suarez, assisted by Xavi—to the tally. Just minutes into the second half, Messi scored again to put his home team up 6-0. It was a dire moment for everyone in the Getafe shirt—from players and coaches to fans and beyond.
The Deep Blues played much better in the second half, and kept the Barcelona home side from adding a seventh goal to their score. Guaita made his best contribution at the 84-minute mark, when he blocked a shot from Messi to deny the legendary footballer a hat trick. Getafe’s Fredy Hinestroza also almost broke the Barca shutout, with a dangerous attack at 74 minutes, but the ball bounced off the post instead of finding its mark.
Worst First Half Ever
Ultimately, though, even if the Deep Blues had managed to score a goal or two, this game still would have gone down in history as a bad one for the club. In their 11 seasons in Spain’s premier division, Getafe CF have never conceded five goals before half time. Those first 45 minutes were just one piece of bad news after another for the away side. Just about any football team on the planet would have been demoralized by a first half like that, and it’s admirable that the Deep Blues were able to come back after the break and play a bit better in the second half.
In any case, the wearers of the Getafe home jersey 2014 – 2015 will be left looking for that elusive win against Barcelona. The Deep Blues haven’t beaten FCB since a La Liga home match in the autumn of 2011.
