Palermo Scores Big Victory in Home Fixture against Napoli

It’s been a whirlwind of a year for US Citta di Palermo. The club was promoted to the top tier of Italian football for the 2014 – 2015 season after topping the Serie B table last year. A rough start to the season made it look like the soccer team would be headed straight back to the second tier. But somehow, the squad has managed to turn things around and climb into the division’s top 10! Celebrate the impressive accomplishment today, with a new Palermo jersey from the Soccer Box online store!

At Soccer Box, we have several jersey designs in stock for the Eagles. The club’s trademark is the unique pink Palermo home shirt 2014 – 2015, which is currently available for a bargain discount price of 15% off! Palermo Football Jersey

Napoli

Whichever Palermo jersey you choose, you’ll want to have it soon! The Eagles just achieved arguably their biggest win of the season so far, topping Napoli 3-1 in a home fixture.

Donning the Palermo home shirt 2014 – 2015 and heading out on the pitch at their own Stadio Renzo Barbera, the Pink-blacks were certainly the underdogs to win in the Valentine’s Day fixture with Napoli. After all, the Napoli Blues are currently ranked in third place on the 2014 – 2015 Serie A table. Leading into the game at Stadio Renzo Barbera, the team’s record was impressive, including 12 wins, six draws, and only four losses.

The Blues also finished in third place on the 2013 – 2014 Serie A table, and were the runners-up in 2012 – 2013. Add a 2013 – 2014 Coppa Italia title, and they are clearly one of the best soccer squads in Italy right now. This year, they are on the hunt for their first top flight Italian football title since 1990.

Needless to say, Napoli would be a formidable opponent for any squad—especially a club that was only just promoted to Serie A this year. And yet, with the home field advantage on their side, the Eagles were able to thoroughly dominate the proceedings on Saturday.

The wearers of the Palermo jersey took the lead early on in the home game and never let it go. The MVP of the match was Argentine midfielder Franco Vasquez, who provided two assists—one for Archraf Lazaar’s game-opening goal at the 11-minute mark, and another for Luca Rigoni later in the game. Vasquez also scored his own goal shortly before halftime. Needless to say, he did the pink Eagles shirt proud.

Also notable during the match was the Palermo defense, which shut down nearly all of Napoli’s attacks. The Blues finally managed to break through at the 82-minute mark, with a goal from Manolo Gabbiadini. It was too little, too late for the away side, though, and the Pink-blacks were crowned the victors with a 3-1 advantage.

2014 – 2015 Standings

The win was great news for the Palermo football club—especially coming off a crushing loss the previous week, dealt by Internazionale. It leaves the squad with an eighth place slot on the 2014 – 2015 league standings table and a record of eight wins, nine draws, and six losses.

For a team that was so recently promoted to the top Italian football division—as well as a team that looked bound for relegation in the early weeks of competition—reaching eighth place is a huge accomplishment. They’re even ahead of both Inter and AC Milan—no small feat in the Serie A.

With all of that said, the Eagles still have a bit of a consistency problem. This past weekend, fans in the Palermo home shirt 2014 – 2015 saw proof that their club could take on, and defeat one of the best clubs in Italian football. And yet, all season they haven’t been able to win more than two league matches in a row. If they could, perhaps they’d be in a top five position!
