Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, commonly known as Neymar, is a Brazilian footballer who can play either as a winger or striker. The 21 year old currently plays for Spanish giants Barcelona and the Brazil national team. If you’re a fan of the young Brazilian then this section is for you.
Neymar started his youth career with Portuguesa Santista but was spotted by Santos who offered him a contract in 2003. Santos are known for producing exceptional Brazilian players such as Coutinho, Diego and Elano. The Brazilian made his senior debut for Santos on 7th March 2009 against Oeste as a 60th minute substitute.
At the age of 19, Neymar won the 2011 South American Footballer of the Year Award and again in 2012. Following a fantastic display, Neymar received FIFA Ballon d’Or nominations where we came 10th. Neymar is known for his speed, acceleration, dribbling and finishing. He continued with his excellent performances and he soon had interest in him from Europe’s top soccer clubs. He made 103 appearances for Santos scoring 54 goals.
On 24th May 2013, Santos announced they had received two bids for their Brazilian soccer wonder kid. Neymar announced the following day he would be leaving to join Barcelona after the 2013 Confederations Cup on 27th May. Barcelona announced the fee for Neymar was £48.6 million and his release clause a massive £175 million.
Neymar made his competitive football debut in a Barcelona shirt as a 63rd minute substitute in a 7 nil thumping over Levante. His first soccer goal for the club came against Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the 2013 Supercopa de España. Since joining Barcelona, Neymar has scored 4 goals in 11 appearances. The clubs fans will be hoping he and Lionel Messi can pair up to create an unstoppable strike force during their football games.
The Brazilian international has won many honours including the Campeonato Paulista (3), Copa do Brasil (1), Copa Libertadores (1) and the Supercopa de España (1).
