Andrés Iniesta Luján born 11 May 1984 in Fuentealbilla, is a Spanish football midfielder who plays for FC Barcelona. After the 2009 Champions League Final, Wayne Rooney stated that he believed the midfielder to be the best player in the world. Iniesta scored the winning goal for Spain in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final against Holland and was the Man of the Match. His current contract with Barcelona ends in June 2014. In 2007, he was linked with a move to Real Madrid, with Real prepared to pay €60 million to trigger his release clause. Iniesta disregarded the rumours and reiterated his desire to remain with Barça. Iniesta's release clause has since been raised to €150 million. Guardiola reportedly said to Barcelona midfielder and then-rising star Xavi that, "You will retire me, but Iniesta will retire us both." Guardiola would later make Xavi and Iniesta the heart of his treble-winning Barcelona side of 2009, almost a decade exactly after his famous prediction.
