Touring Uruguay at the time were football scouts from Dutch side Groningen were looking at another player, the scouts were so impressed with Suazez that they offered Nacional over 800,000 euros which was accepted by the club.

Suarez was only 19 when he moved to the Netherlands; he was placed in the reserve team so that he could adjust to the Dutch way of life. Suarez was very lucky as he had a fellow Uruguayan player called Bruno Silva who also played at Groningen who helped him settle. Fellow players at that time were very impressed with Luis Suarez as he settled well and learnt how to speak both Dutch and English. 

In 2007 Ajax had been watching Suarez and offered Groningen 3.5 million Euros but this was strongly refused by Groningen. This upset Suarez so much that he took his case for a transfer to Ajax to arbitration and on the day of his case Ajax stepped in and offered Groningen a total of 7.5 Million euros which was accepted.

Luis Suarez spent five years at Ajax winning many trophies and awards including player of the year awards, lots of European football teams were showing an interest is Suarez before he finally decided to sign for English premier league soccer team Liverpool where Suarez is at today, his time at Liverpool has been very good and sometimes very bad with him picking up bans for racial abuse and biting another player.

This current season 2013 - 2014 has seen  a massive turnaround for Suarez as Liverpool have had a fantastic season with Suarez being the football clubs top scorer despite missing a number of football matches at the start of the season through being banned.
