The 2014 2015 Champions League
From the get-go, Real Madrid has been the frontrunner in this year's incarnation of the UCL. Last season, the team broke a 12-year dry spell to claim a record 10th title in the prestigious UEFA soccer event. This year, the football club is back-momentum on their side-to take the record one step higher.
So far they're doing quite well in achieving that mission. Last fall, the wearers of the Real Madrid home jersey 2014 2015 scorched their way through the tournament's group stage, winning home and away fixtures alike against Basel, Liverpool, and Ludogorets Razgrad.
The Madrid squad topped Group C with six wins and a goal difference of +14. Basel came in second-and qualified for the knockout stages-with just two wins and a -1 goal difference. Liverpool and Razgrad each won one soccer game apiece, and were eliminated.
Schalke 04
For the round of 16, Real Madrid was drawn against Germany's Schalke 04. The two teams have something in common, which is third-place league finishes from last year. The Vikings trailed behind Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga, while Schalke fell behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.
When the two teams played one another on February 18th, though, that's about where their similarities ended. The game wasn't a runaway victory for Real, but it didn't need to be. Despite playing as the away team, the Vikings controlled the match for the majority of its runtime. Once Cristiano Ronaldo gave his side the lead at the 26-minute mark, the football game might as well have been over.
The Vikings would only score one more goal, with a 79-minute collaboration between Ronaldo (with an assist) and Marcelo (with the score). And since Real Madrid had 41 dangerous attacks and took 11 on-target shots, the relatively low score shows that Schalke's defensive lineup is certainly skilled.
Still, fans in the 2014 Real Madrid kit never had much to worry about. Real's defensive squad was also in top form, with goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas managing his fifth clean sheet of the 2014 2015 Champions League.
So what's next? With the first knockout game out of the way, the Vikings will head off to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for a home leg rematch against Schalke. And if the club could win in Germany, then there is little doubt they can win again on their own home turf in Spain. After all, tens of thousands of adoring football fans will be packing the stands at Stantiago Bernabeu, all wearing the Real Madrid home jersey 2014 2015.
In other words, barring some huge, shocking upset, you can expect to see the Vikings in the 2014 2015 UCL quarterfinal round. Root for such an outcome today, by picking up a new Real Madrid kit at Soccer Box. Whether it's a white and black home kit you're interested in, or a pink away jersey, you can find it here.
