Borussia Dortmund didn't have the most eventful deadline day on Monday, September 1st, as the summer transfer window skittered to a close. A deal to transfer winger Kevin Grosskreutz to Galatasaray was reportedly blocked by FIFA, while talks with Manchester United about a possible transfer out for Marco Reus were also apparently on the table. In the end, though, both Reus and Grosskreutz will be sticking around at BVB until January or beyond, while Adnan Januzaj heads to Borussia Dortmund, from Manchester United, the forward will don the Borussia Dortmund home shirt 2015 2016 on a season-long basis.
A Loan with No Permanent Potential?
The word on Dortmund's deadline day loan deal for Adnan Januzaj is that he will be playing for the German soccer club until May, but will inevitably return to Old Trafford once the 2015 2016 season closes out. In other words, there is no section included in his loan contract that would give BVB the option of signing him as a full transfer, even if he plays remarkably well this season.
Instead, Manchester United are sending the Belgian winger to Germany in hopes that he will get more playing time than he's gotten in England-and more opportunities to develop his football talent.
Januzaj's Career So Far
Indeed, Januzaj does need more caps before any football club-be it United, Dortmund, or another bidder-will know much about his value or potential. At 20 years old, Adnan is still in the earliest stages of his senior career. After spending 12 years in three different youth programs (first at FC Brussels, then at RSC Anderlecht, and finally at Manchester United), Januzaj made his senior squad debut for the Red Devils in August 2013.
Since then, Januzaj has tallied 60 appearances for United, including 47 Premier League caps. He was used frequently during the 2013 2014 season, when he made 35 appearances across all competitions and scored four goals in his rookie Premier League campaign. He also gained a reputation for taking dives, though, collecting seven yellow cards throughout the Premier League season.
Januzaj was not used as frequently during the 2014 2015 season, seeing his Premier League appearance count cut down to 18, and his overall app tally to 21 (compared to 27 and 35, respectively, the previous season). As a result of seeing less play time, Adnan was able to avoid any additional yellow cards, but he also failed to score any additional goals.
That goal was also the first scored by a Manchester United player in the 2015 2016 Premier League. The Red Devils had won their opening day game a week before, beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, but an own goal from the Spurs' Kyle Walker provided that victory.
A Good Fit for Borussia Dortmund
Clearly, Adnan Januzaj has a lot of potential to be an offensive force at BVB this season. While Man United clearly just want the young Belgian star to develop his talent before returning to Old Trafford, the Black and Yellows should still be able to use him to their favor. He should fit in nicely with BVB's current offensive core of Marco Reus, Adrian Ramos, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
