Good news for soccer fans hoping that AFC Ajax might be able to win a fifth consecutive title in the Dutch Eredivisie this season. As 2014 fades into 2015 and the premier Netherlands football league 
takes a brief winter break, Ajax is just four points off the lead on the division standings table. PSV Eindhoven has held the top slot for the majority of the fall, but the wearers of the Ajax kit look poised to take it away in the first weeks of 2015.

A Chance to Make History
By any measure, winning a national football championship title four years in a row is something very impressive. Plenty of fans would be convinced to put on an Ajax kit and support the team if for no other reason than their recent record of success.
A bigger reason to root for the Lancers this season is that they could make history if they manage to secure another Eredivisie title in 2015. Indeed, in the years that a Netherlands national football champion has been crowned, there have been several four-year winning streaks.
For instance, from 1900 to 1903, HVV Den Haag won the trophy four times. It didn't happen again until the 1980s, when PSV had a four-year championship streak, and Eindhoven even did it a second time in the mid-2000s. All three teams failed to win the milestone fifth title.
That means the current version of AFC Ajax is only the fourth squad in Dutch football history to attempt that milestone. Will the wearers of the Ajax away shirt 2014/15 be able to succeed where others have failed? Only time will tell, but so far things have looked pretty good for the team.
2014 2015 so Far
Currently, in the 2014 2015 Eredivisie, the Lancers have a record of 12 wins, two draws, and three losses. Those statistics combine for an overall total of 39 points, in terms of division standings. Comparatively, PSV has 43 points, having won two more games than Ajax.
As these numbers show, Ajax and Eindhoven are on fairly equal footing at this point in time, and just a few matches could change which is on top. However, recently the two clubs have remained in dead heat, thanks to similar game results.
This much is evident just by looking at the last five games that the two squads have played. In the month leading up to December 20th and 21st, both teams won four fixtures and settled for one draw. For PSV, the draw came at an away fixture at Groningen on November 23rd. For the wearers of the Ajax kit, the draw came just a week later, in an away game against ADO Den Haag.
The fact that the two teams have been logging such similar win-draw-loss numbers has made it difficult for the Lancers to jockey their way into the leading position. If such a trend continues, then the stakes could be quite high by March 1st when players will don the Ajax away shirt 2014 2015 to take on Eindhoven head to head.
When the two teams met in August, during the first half of 2014 2015 competition, PSV beat Ajax at home 1-3. As a result, the Lancers will not only be looking to take the lead in the division, but also for a chance at payback. Eindhoven, meanwhile, will be looking for a bit of payback of their own: Ajax was the team that spoiled their shot at a five-year championship streak back in 1990.
