A day after sealing their fifth UEFA Champions League title and their second-ever treble, FC Barcelona celebrated by announcing the signing of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla FC. But who is Vidal? We find out all the facts in this Aleix Vidal player profile. Keep reading to find out more about Barca's newest team member.

Vidal, a 25-year-old winger standing at five feet, nine inches, will join Barca for the 2015 2016 season. Unfortunately, Vidal won't get to don the Barcelona home shirt 2015 2016 (for competitive play, at least) until January, due to a transfer ban that Barcelona received from FIFA. (Barca got in trouble for signing underage foreign players last season.) Still, Barca fans are already analyzing the skills and history of Vidal, and wondering how he might mesh with a soccer squad that was nearly perfect in 2014 2015.

Player History

Despite the fact that he is still relatively young, Aleix Vidal has many, many clubs listed on his player profile already. That's due mostly to an unorthodox youth career that saw Aleix transferring almost every single year. Indeed, in his youth soccer career (which started in 2000 and ended in 2008, when he signed to Espanyol), Vidal bounced from Valls to Barcelona to FC Cambrils to Gimnastic to Real Madrid to Reus. When he finally arrived at Espanyol in 2007 2008, for the final year of his youth career, he was promptly loaned to CF Damms.

It wasn't until the 2008 2009 season that Aleix finally got to play on a senior level, and when he did, he was still just playing for Espanyol's B squad. It took stints at fourth-tier Spanish club Pobla de Mafumet and second-tier team Mallorca (as part of the B squad) before Vidal finally got his big break: a starting position at Almeria in 2010 2011.

While playing for Almeria, Aleix finally caught the eye of the broader Spanish football world. He wasn't a big scorer (he averaged six goals a season overall during his three years with the football club). However, he did rack up considerable playtime, notching 130 appearances for Almeria between 2011 and 2014. He was a key factor in the team's success in those years, helping Almeria attain a promotion to the La Liga division after the 2012 2013 season.

After playing in all 38 matches of Almeria's 2013 2014 campaign, Vidal transferred to Sevilla. He scored the club's first goal of the 2014 2015 La Liga season, helping Sevilla secure a 1-1 draw against Valencia. And while he often played as right back during the 2014 2015 campaign, Aleix still showed offensive flare from time to time. For instance, in the 2014 2015 Europa League (which Sevilla won), Vidal was one of the big reasons the club even reached the finals, scoring two goals in a 3-0 semifinal victory over Fiorentina.

Barcelona Transfer

All told, Aleix Vidal's first (and now, only) season at Sevilla was a very good one. In addition to winning a Europa League title (Sevilla's second in a row), he helped the club to a fifth place finish in the La Liga, a qualification for next year's Champions League, and a runner-up finish in the UEFA Super Lig. No wonder Barcelona were willing to pay a reported £16 million to bring him aboard.

The question is what will Aleix Vidal's future at Barcelona bring? Will he add more awards and accolades to his player profile? Will he continue to grow? That's obviously the hope, not just for club officials, but also for Aleix himself. The 25-year-old footballer has said that he wants to play at Barca until he retires from football. After years and years of moving around, he's finally found home.

It's clear that Aleix is very passionate about playing at Barcelona, because he has not complained about the fact that he won't actually be able to compete for the football club until January 2016. Instead, Aleix has said that he is looking forward to working on his game and getting to know the many great players on the Barca squad. In the meantime, Barcelona are holding on to Dani Alves, who plays the same position as Vidal. The two will compete for caps come January.
