In the past Arsenal have always been very strong contenders for the Premier League title along with Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City. However as of late their form seems to have slipped and they have found themselves having to put up a really hard fight to even grab a Champion's league spot and with the season drawing to a close soon they really need to pull their socks up. A few years ago Arsenal were in amazing form and the Arsenal kit was a big seller, however over the past year or so other teams have become more popular with a lot of people purchasing Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City kits. Even teams from La Liga including Barcelona and Real Madrid have become increasingly popular. The Arsenal kit that has been worn this season is red for the home kit and the away kit is purple and black striped.
Currently Arsenal have played 33 games in the season and have 60 points, 20 points less than top of the league Manchester United with 80 points. It has only been recently that Arsenal have picked up form slightly, with four wins in four games. That all came to an end with a goalless draw at the Emirates stadium against 6th place Everton on Tuesday, they played in their red and white Arsenal kit. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs are both only two points behind Arsenal in the table so Arsenal may struggle to qualify for a Champion's League spot with their next match against Fulham and then a home match against Manchester United. There are five games left this season and it is all to play for and the points are so close. Arsenal have never had a problem in the past, in the season 2003-04 Arsenal won the title and were the first team to do it without a single defeat in a 38 game league season and were also the second team ever to do it. That was a great result for Arsenal; they worked very
hard and also had the help from former Arsenal superstar Thierry Henry, not to forget other amazing Arsenal players such as Patrick Viera and Robert Pires.
Arsenal winning the league was hardly surprising seen as they were playing so well and with Chelsea having been on a spending spree thanks to new owner Roman Abromovich they were disappointed not to win the title after they had brought in so many expensive players. Once again in the season of 2003-04 was a very busy time for sports retailers as millions of people were ordering the Arsenal kit which was all down to their recent form. However that was the last time Arsenal won the title in 2003-2004 and now Manchester City are now the reigning champions, they won the title last year in an intense ending.
Manchester United had lead the table from the start of the season up until October when Manchester City beat them 6-1 away and managed to overtake them and keep up their lead. The race for fourth place and that guaranteed Champion's League spot it is between the two London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, with the two Manchester clubs almost certain of first and second place. The next 5 games with be tough for both teams as they battle it out for that vital fourth spot. Hopefully if Arsenal can succeed fourth place, orders for the Arsenal kit will go back up in numbers and they can gain some momentum ready for next season as they once again battle it out for first place in the Premier League in 2014.
