The 2014 2015 UEFA Champions League
You'll want to do just that if you've been paying attention to Monaco's quality run in the 2014 2015 UEFA Champions League!
No one expected much out of AS Monaco in this year's UCL. The club may have landed in second place on France's Ligue 1 standings table last year, but they were still far from a safe bet for continental tournament domination. After all, the Red and Whites haven't even played in a Champions League tournament since 2004 2005. In 2010, they were even relegated from Ligue 1, and spent two seasons in French football's second tier.
With all of that in mind, the wearers of the AS Monaco kit weren't expected to be contenders at the 2014 2015 UCL. That all changed when they won their group, beating out Germany's Bayer Leverkusen, Russia's Zenit Saint Petersburg, and Portugal's Benfica for a strong draw in the knockout phase.
Now, fans in the Monaco home jersey 2014 2015 are just hoping that their squad can push on through to the next round. A decade ago, when the Red and Whites last played in a UCL tournament, they exited after the round of 16 though. The year before that, though, the soccer team had finished in second-place, losing 0-3 to Porto in the final.
Arsenal
Could this be the year that AS Monaco finally wins a Champions League title? It's not beyond the realm of possibility, especially after the football club's big win over Arsenal last week.
The Gunners, like the Red and Whites, have never won at the UCL. However, unlike Monaco, Arsenal has been a consistent presence at the event over the years, participating in every tournament since 1998 1999. No wonder most expected the Gunners to triumph over the Red and Whites in the round of 16.
Based on the outcome of the first leg, though, the wearers of the AS Monaco kit will be the ones progressing to the next round. Held on February 25th, the game was played at Arsenal's home ground at Emirates Stadium. Even with the home field advantage though, the Gunners were thoroughly outplayed.
Indeed, AS Monaco scored first (with a 38-minute goal from midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia), and widened the lead to 2-0 just minutes into the second half. The home side did manage to get on the board, with Gunners forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netting his first goal of the season at the 90+1 minute mark. But even that last-minute offensive success couldn't go unanswered. Monaco's Yannick Ferreira Carrasco scored his own last-minute goal, with 90+4 on the clock. Just like that, the Red and Whites were up 3-1 in the round of 16.
On March 17th, the squad will don the Monaco home jersey 2014 2015 for the second leg of the round. This time, they'll be playing on their own home turf at Stade Louis II. It's an advantage that, when coupled with the club's big win last week, makes them the obvious favorites to progress. After all, to overcome the home loss, the Gunners will have to score at least three goals and win by at least two points to even have a prayer of reaching the quarterfinals.
Pick up a new AS Monaco kit today, to celebrate the French football club's golden opportunity in the 2014 2015 UCL. Whether you are looking for a home jersey, an away kit, or a third jersey, you can find it online at Soccer Box.
