A Scattershot Season

Support is something that the Aston Villa football squad needs right now. The team has shown a lot of promise since summer. In fact, at the start of competition in the fall, they were near the top of the division standings table. The Lions won three of their first four games in the fall, besting the likes of Stoke City, Hull City, and Liverpool, and persisting as one of the top three clubs in the division for the first month-plus of play.

Things cooled off after that. For a while, it didn't matter if the footballers on the field were wearing the home jersey or the Aston Villa away shirt 2014 2015: they just couldn't seem to get a win. Between September 20th and November 2nd, the club lost all six of its matches. A third place slot turned into a 15th place rut, and everyone who had been talking about Aston Villa's Premier League chances stopped.

Turning Things Around

Luckily, in December, it looked like the Lions were rallying. Of the six matches they played last month; the team won two, drew two, and lost two. It wasn't the most spotless run in England, but it did break Aston Villa's losing streak and showed that they could still win soccer games.

The early December wins-against Crystal Palace and Leicester City-may have been against lower-ranked Premier League teams, but they still reignited a bit of interest in the Lions. Soccer Box's Aston Villa shop, for instance, got a boost of business in time for the holiday season.

It didn't hurt that the Claret and Blue squad would be taking on Crystal Palace again on New Year's Day. Supporters of the club were hoping that the fixture would give Aston Villa an easy win to start 2015, and ignite some much-needed momentum for the New Year.

The New Year's Game

Unfortunately, that's not exactly how things worked out. Players donned their home shirts for the match, after winning the last game against Crystal Palace while wearing the Aston Villa away shirt 2014 2015. But while the home field advantage should have actually helped Aston Villa improve upon what they did in an away fixture, their performance at Villa Park actually ended up being markedly weaker than what they did at Selhurst a month ago.

The fixture ended in a 0-0 draw, a limp start to 2015 for both clubs. It was doubly disappointing for Aston Villa fans, since the football club also closed out 2014 with a scoreless draw-against Sunderland. Fortunately, the squad's next match is an away fixture against Leicester City-another team they've already beaten once.
