Fans in the Atletico Madrid away kit were treated to a big treat last Saturday, as the Mattressers closed Atletico Madrid Away Shirt 2014 - 2015out 2014 with a big away win over Athletic Club Bilbao. The 4-1 triumph was easily Atletico's biggest away win of the season so far, and was a great way to end what has been, overall, a very good year for the club from Vicente Calderon Stadium.

A Great 2014

In most ways, 2014 was a proud time to wear the Atletico Madrid away kit. The squad took first place in the La Liga division, won the Supercopa de Espana, and landed in the runner-up slot for the UEFA Champions League. Losing the latter title in the finals was a bit of a blow-especially since the loss was dealt by crosstown rivals, Real Madrid-but then again, most football clubs would kill to get so close to a UCL trophy.

Things have continued strongly in the 2014 2015 La Liga season. Considering the fact that Atletico lost its best striker this summer-Brazilian star Diego Costa transferred to Chelsea-some wondered how the team might perform this fall.

Even despite the loss of such a great offensive player, though, Atletico has assembled a solid record this year. Indeed, the wearers of the Atletico Madrid away shirt 2014 2015 have won 11 of their 16 games so far. Two draws and three losses round out their current competitive football record.

They are currently in third place on the La Liga standings table, behind Real Madrid (13-0-2) and Barcelona (12-2-2). In other words, they are still very much in the hunt for another football league title in 2015.

The Bilbao Match

If the Mattressers are going to make a strong campaign for that title, then they certainly ended 2014 with a strong statement for it. Donning the Atletico Madrid away kit, players headed off to San Mames Barria to take on Bilbao. With no fixtures scheduled this weekend, in light of the holidays, the away game was the last of the year for both clubs.

And what a way for Madrid to end the year. Bilbao may have been first on the board, with a 17-minute goal from midfielder Mikel Rico setting the score up at 1-0 for the home team. That lead held until halftime, too, but upon coming out of the locker room, the Mattressers went to work.

Winger Antoine Griezmann was absolutely the most valuable player in the Atletico Madrid away shirt 2014 2015 during the second half of the match. Starting at the 46-minute mark, he delivered a hat trick of goals, scoring all three in just 35 minutes. A penalty goal from Raul Garcia, interspersed amongst Griezmann's untouchable scoring streak, gave the away squad a 4-1 advantage at the end of regulation time.

Looking into 2015

The win against Bilbao was a perfect way to tie up 2014 for the fans, players, and officials associated with the Atletico Madrid soccer shirt. It was easily the team's best away win of the 2014 2015 La Liga season. More than that, though, it was only the third time this season that the squad has delivered four points in a match.

The momentum from the away fixture triumph will carry Atletico Madrid into their holiday break and hopefully fuel a strong 2015 start. Their first opponent will be Levante, a lower ranked organization that shouldn't present much of a challenge. However, their second game of 2015 will be an away fixture against FC Barcelona. That soccer game, scheduled for January 11th, will be a challenge, and could offer a "state of the union" of sorts for the remainder of the 2014 2015 La Liga.
