A Rough Start to 2015
When Manchester Utd closed out 2014 with a draw against Tottenham Hotspur, it was a rather anticlimactic ending to what was a very tumultuous 12 months at Old Trafford. Granted, things could have been worse-the team didn't end 2014 with a loss, after all. But the tie with Tottenham didn't provide the burst of momentum that the Red Devils could have used to propel them into a successful 2015.
And evidently, they needed that momentum. If you were a fan dressing your infant in the baby Man Utd kit in the first weeks of 2015, you were likely somewhat disappointed by United's first Premier League soccer performances of the year. A 1-1 draw with Stoke City got things started, during a lukewarm New Year's Day away match.
Southampton
The next week was worse, though. Man Utd faced Southampton in a fixture at Old Trafford, their first game of the year in front of a home crowd.
By all accounts, the Red Devils should have been able to manage a victory at the match. For one thing, the stands of Old Trafford were packed with supporters, from young ones in the Manchester United infant bodysuits 2014 2015 to longtime fans in the 2014 2015 home jerseys.
For another thing, Southampton was one of the few teams that the Red Devils beat in an away fixture during the first half of the season. That game came on December 8th, during Manchester's autumn winning streak, and the club managed a 2-1 victory thanks to a brace of Robin Van Persie goals.
The Southampton squad, unfortunately, seemed adamant about paying Man Utd back for the home loss. In a football fixture where most of the action played out between the defensive lines, the away team got the edge with a 69-minute game-winning goal from Dusan Tadic.
Queens Park Rangers
The 0-1 loss against Southampton was disappointing for a number of reasons. On one hand, it happened at home. It also caused Man United to slip from third to fourth place on the 2014 2015 Premier League standings table.
Needless to say, the defeat left the Red Devils in strong need of a win. A victory would give fans reason to be proud about dressing their infants in the Man Utd baby kit; a victory would restore the club's momentum for the New Year; and a victory would help reclaim that third-place spot.
Thankfully, neither fans nor players had to wait very long for that win. Just this past weekend, Manchester Utd broke their winless streak, with a 2-0 triumph over Queens Park Rangers.
Marouane Fellaini and James Wilson scored the goals to bring Man United back to life, and the squad was celebratory about finally winning a Premier League match in 2015. Will the team be able to keep winning? We shall see in upcoming soccer fixtures with Leicester City and West Ham United.
