This week saw the 2nd leg Champions League quarterfinal clashes. After knocking Real Madrid out last year and progressing to the final where they lost out to Bayern Munich, this week's clash was sure to be a heated display of football excellence. They came away with a 3-0 defeat and an uphill struggle in the home leg if their UCL dreams were to continue.

The Signal Iduna Park on the 8th April was the location and date of the 2nd leg. Weidenfeller, the Dortmund goalkeeper saved an early Real Madrid penalty setting the tone for the rest of the game. Dortmund was determined until the final whistle.

After 24 minutes Reus put the home side 1-0 up, and added a 2nd on the 37th minute to give Borussia Dortmund a 2-0 lead. One goal was needed to force extra time and penalties. However, it was not to be, the game ended 2-0 and Borussia Dortmund's hopes of European glory are over for another season.

Despite the loss Borussia Dortmund and their fans are proud through and through. After the game coach Jurgen Klopp stated that he was proud of his team, they worked hard and didn't give up. Whereas, both sides admitted that Real's performance was lacking. Borussia is sure to return next year with the trophy in sights, such is the teams determination that the Champions League is overdue a trip to Borussia Dortmund.
