UCL Qualification
Arsenal's run in the 2014 2015 UEFA Champions League group stage started off in rough fashion back in September, with a 2-0 loss against Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund topped the squad in last year's group stages too, though, so fans had hope that their soccer club would rally and win matches going forward.
Luckily, the club did just that. An October 1st home game against Galatasaray made for a particularly proud time for kids to wear the boys Arsenal football kit. The home squad won that fixture 4-1, giving themselves a nice cushion of goal difference in the second place spot.
The cushion widened a little more with an away match against Anderlecht later in the month. However, since Borussia was having no trouble beating the other clubs in Group D either, it looked like the football team might not have a chance to take the lead. They would therefore have to hold tight to second place if they were to hope for qualification into the UCL knockout stages.
Understandably, then, young boys in the Arsenal kids home jersey 2014 2015 began to worry when Arsenal drew a match with Anderlecht at home at the beginning of November. The game started well enough, with Arsenal leading 2-0 at the half, and adding to that lead at the 59-minute mark.
However, Arsenal's three unanswered points were followed by a trio of unanswered goals from Anderlecht. The game ended in a draw, and didn't bring Arsenal much closer to qualifying for the latter rounds of the 2014 2015 Champions League.
The Borussia Dortmund Fixture
So it was that the young fans in the boys Arsenal football kit approached their team's November 26th home soccer fixture against Dortmund. The game was high-stakes for the Gunners. Going into that match, the team had seven standings points in Group D. A win would bring them to 10 and would guarantee advancement to the knockout stage.
Lucky for fans, the home team did precisely what they needed to do. For one thing, the defense held Borussia scoreless throughout the match. For another, Arsenal's offensive footballers managed to find the back of the net on multiple occasions.
The young Yaya Sanogo, a 21-year-old striker that came to Emirates Stadium last year, scored his first goal ever with the squad just two minutes into the match. That gave the Gunners an early lead that they rode throughout the soccer game. An additional goal from forward Alexis Sanchez (a breakout offensive star for the 2014 2015 season) gave the home team a 2-0 lead.
Thanks to the win, young fans in the Arsenal kids home jersey 2014 2015 will be able to root for their team in the next round of this year's UCL tournament. The Gunners still have one group stage match to be played, this one against Galatasaray, but the outcome will have no outcome on their standing.
