Whatever 2015 does hold, though, it's still three months away. That's right: the Three Lions are taking three months off of competitive play, with their next match-a Euro qualifying game against Lithuania-scheduled for March 27, 2015. In the meantime, make sure you pick up an England kids away jersey 2014 2015 or adult home shirt, both available at Soccer Box. You are going to want these soccer shirt variations if England's stellar run up to the European Championship continues!

The Best of the Best

Another fun way to pass the time until the return of the Three Lions in 2015 is to ask this question: who are the best footballers to ever play the game with the English national team? And were any of them playing with the squad in 2014?

The answer to the latter question is an unequivocal "yes." Even if boys of the three Lions performed under expectations at the 2014 World Cup, it's not because they lacked great, A-list stars. Indeed, three of the most capped footballers in the history of the national side retired from the squad in 2014-after the World Cup.

Steven Gerrard

The most obvious of these was Steven Gerrard, who captained the England side at the World Cup. He retired after the tournament, as the third most capped player in English history. With 114 caps, he was just one fixture away from tying David Beckham in second place. (Legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton tops the list, with 125 appearances.)

Gerrard may have retired from international play, but you can still find versions of both the boys England football shirt and the adult jersey with his name and jersey number (4) printed on them. Soccer Box still has stock of the Gerrard home and away shirts, available in both kids and adult sizes.

Gerrard has been called "probably the best player this country has ever seen," with many praising his consistency, his goal count (21), and his leadership. He will certainly be missed.

Wayne Rooney

If you visit Soccer Box, you will also find player-specific versions of the England kids away shirt for Wayne Rooney. Rooney, who took over the captaincy position when Gerrard retired, is not quite as high up in the record books as far as caps are concerned. He's been capped 101 times.

However, where Rooney does excel is in goal count. He's currently in third place on the list of all-time goal scorers for the English football team. His count, of 46, is just three goals behind the record of forward Bobby Charlton.

Since Rooney hasn't retired yet and still has (hopefully) a few years of international play left in him, we may see him break that record before his career is over. Needless to say, if your kids are asking for the boys England football shirt for Christmas, they are probably big Rooney fans.

Other Recent Retirees

Gerrard wasn't the only all-time great England football player to announce his retirement in 2014. Ashley Cole, the club's fifth most capped player and second most capped defender, was not selected for the World Cup soccer squad and subsequently retired from international play.

Frank Lampard also decided to retire this summer, after 101 appearances and 29 goals for the English side. The Chelsea football club veteran had been playing with the national side since 1999. He was undoubtedly one of the greatest ever, and a player whose legacy you can celebrate with a new England kids away jersey 2014 2015 from Soccer Box.
