Based on the action of the group stages, the 2014 FIFA World Cup has been one of the most exciting World Cup's ever, and the first game of the knockout stage didn't disappoint either. The Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte was filled with Brazil football
jerseys as fans of the host nation turned out for the clash between Brazil and Chile. Brazil scraped their way into the quarterfinals after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The Brazil 2014 World Cup home shirt is a yellow Nike football jersey with green trim. The Brazil home kit was redesigned after the 1950 World Cup that was also hosted by Brazil. On that occasion Brazil lost in the final to Uruguay, resulting in the redesigned yellow kit that is seen as patriotic, and is certainly the symbol of the 2014 tournament.

Soccer Box still has stock of the Brazil football jerseys, and many other 2014 World Cup soccer shirts and team merchandise. With the tournament in full flow, and every match more exciting than the last now is the time to order you shirts and show support for your favorite teams.

As the home nation Brazil has been the favorite to win the 2014 World Cup for month's even years. However, based on their group stage performances their rankings were becoming more uncertain. They beat Croatia and Cameroon, but could only achieve a draw against Mexico. It is fair to say their performances were lackluster and unconvincing.

The First 90 Minutes

A knockout stage tie against Chile was one to avoid. Brazilian manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has always been wary of the Chilean football team. In fact, after the group stage draw, in December, it was Chile he named as the team to avoid. Chile had never beaten Brazil at home, however, recent strong performances had them marked as a team to avoid, and rightly so!

Both teams came onto the pitch with a desire to win. Both teams had chances in the opening 15 minutes but it was David Luiz wearing the number 4 Brazil 2014 World Cup home shirt that opened the scoring after 18 minutes. Chile didn't let them keep the lead for long though. Sanchez scored a fantastic equalizer in the 32nd minute.

The equalizer came from a Brazilian throw in, and resultant mistake. The goal was typical of the flow of the game. Brazil made some great chances but was sloppy and made too many mistakes. Chile dominated the possession and pressed the team hard. Due to Chile's persistence Brazil's passing accuracy was the worst of any Brazilian team World Cup performance since 1966.

The fans wearing the Brazil football jerseys were celebrating a goal in the 54th minute when Hulk hit the net, however, referee Howard Webb immediately disallowed the goal for handball. The rest of the 90 minutes proceeded in stalemate, both sides making chances but fantastic goalkeeping and defensive skills kept the score at 1-1 after 90 minutes. Meaning that the 1st knockout game would play-on to extra time.

Penalty Knockout!

The first 15 minutes of extra-time was uneventful, Brazil created the most chances but Chile held strong. Both teams were tiring under the heat and pressure of the Brazilian football stadium. Both teams used their final substitutions in order to refresh their teams, but as the 30 minutes wound down a penalty shoot-out loomed nearer. Chile had the best shot in the 29th minute when Pinilla hit the bar, but penalties it would be.

No team wants their fate decided by a penalty shoot out, but if no winner prevails after 120 minutes of game-play it is the only way to decide, and what a penalty shoot-out it was. The Brazil 2014 World Cup home shirt of David Luiz scored the 1st for the host nation, Pinilla missed Chile's 1st shot, setting up a score, miss rotation for both teams that was packed with tension and excitement. After 4 shots each the score was 2-2, superstar Neymar calmly hit the net, but Gonzalo Jara hit the post for Chile sending Brazil into the quarterfinals.

What a game, what a penalty shoot-out! There is sure to be much more excitement to come in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Brazil will meet Columbia or Uruguay in the next round. There is still time to order your Brazil football jerseys online at Soccer Box and get behind the favorite and host nation.
