Instead, Celtic fell to a 0-1 defeat in the friendly match, while PSV added another feather to the cap of what has been an extremely successful season for the team. Luckily for the Celts, the game won't impact their standings in the Scottish Premiership. However, a pair of injuries-to midfielder Scott Brown and forward John Guidetti-could make it more difficult for the team to defend their title. You can show your support for both players, and for the football team as a whole, with a brand new home kit or Celtic away jersey 2014 2015 from Soccer Box.
Celtic versus Eindhoven
While the battle with PSV might have been billed as a friendly fixture, it was also Celtic's first "big" match-up of 2015. The club was supposed to face their main Premiership rivals, Partick Thistle, on New Year's Day, but the away match had to be postponed due to a flooded soccer pitch.
For that reason, when the Hoops donned the Celtic away kit and headed out on the field to face Eindhoven, they were looking for a big win to help kick start their 2015 momentum. Sure, the squad started the year with a January 5th Premiership win against Kilmarnock, but that team is in the lower half of the Premiership table and was never much of a threat. And after losing their last 2014 game against Dundee United, the Celts needed a big win against a worthy rival to truly get the 2015 ball rolling.
Unfortunately, the friendly fixture against Eindhoven didn't yield that win. The two teams met on neutral ground, at a municipal stadium out on the Canary Islands. Despite the exotic location, the Hoops were billed as the "away" team. So it was that, when players took the soccer pitch at the small 8,000-capacity stadium, they were clad in the dark green hues of the Celtic away jersey.
A Rough Match
In this case, the Celtic away kit proved to be anything but lucky for the Scottish football club. Dutch World Cup star Memphis Depay put PSV in the lead before halftime, converting a beautiful strike into a goal. Falling into a trailing position just a half hour into the game was the least of Celtic's worries.
Indeed, the club's biggest issues during the game were injury-related. Indeed, what should have been a friendly contest turned rather violent early on, with Hoops captain Scott Brown catching a foot in the face after a sliding challenge. The extent of Brown's injury-and whether or not he will miss any future soccer games-is currently unknown. What is known, though, is that the Celtic captain left the field with a serious-looking gash on his forehead, and with blood streaming down his face. John Guidetti, meanwhile, limped off the field during the second half, clutching his hamstring in pain.
Clearly, it wasn't a good day for the wearers of the Celtic away jersey 2014 2015. Injuries are never something a football club wants to deal with. However, when they occur during friendlies-which don't matter for anything other than bragging rights-injuries are especially frustrating. Fans are just hoping that neither Guidetti nor Brown will have to miss any competitive play, as both are key members of the squad.
