Last year Adidas and Chelsea agreed to renew their deal that initially began in 2006. They agreed a record-breaking deal for the Premier League; it is worth £300m for the next 10 years. The football winter transfer window closed last week. Recently there has been a debate over whether there should be a winter transfer period. Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager, has said that it is unfair for major player movements to occur part way through the season. This years January transfer period has been relatively quiet for many clubs. The busiest 2 football teams have been Chelsea and Manchester United. Several new players will wear the Chelsea kit for the rest of this season.

Transfer spending in the Premier League has hit an all time high. In total £760m has been spent this season, £130m of this was in January. Manchester United and Chelsea accounted for 60% of this total. The biggest signing this winter was Juan Mata. He swapped his blue Chelsea kit for the red Manchester United soccer shirt for a transfer fee of £37.1m.

There were also several incoming players at Chelsea. Manager Jose Mourinho spent at least £44.5m. The biggest signing was for Nemanja Matic, for a fee of £21m he left his Benfica football shirt behind to star in the Chelsea kit. Matic is a Serbian midfielder; he previously played at Stamford Bridge from 2009 - 2011. His 1st spell at Chelsea was uneventful however, Mourinho is excited about his new return stating that he has gained experience and become a much better football player over the last few years.

The 1st signing for Chelsea in January was Bertrand Traore for an undisclosed fee. He is an attacking midfielder that Chelsea has been trying to sign for 2 years, he has signed a 4 and a half year contract and has stated that he is thrilled to be working with Mourinho and that 'he is one of the best managers in the world! Another incoming player is Mohamed Salah who will wear the number 15 Chelsea kit.

Salah is a young Egyptian player that has left Basle to play Premier League football at Chelsea. Playing against Chelsea several times recently he has made a reputation for himself as being 'fast, creative and enthusiastic'. After Mata's departure Mourinho was more than happy with the £11m fee needed to secure this young soccer star that has signed to wear the Chelsea kit until the end of the 2018 - 2019 season.

The final new player that will be wearing the Chelsea home kit from now on is Kurt Zouma, he has left St Etienne for a fee of £12.5m. Zouma is a defender, the contract states that he will stay at St Etienne for the rest of the 2013 - 2014 season. He is due to join pre-season training at Chelsea where it will be decided if he will make the 1st team now. He is a young football player, Mourinho is thinking of Chelsea's future player needs by signing him. It is clear that Mourinho is planning for the long-term domination of Chelsea FC!
