The football winter transfer window closed last week. Recently there has been a debate over whether there should be a winter transfer period. Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager, has said that it is unfair for major player movements to occur part way through the season. There were also several incoming players at Chelsea. Manager Jose Mourinho spent at least £44.5m. The biggest signing was for Nemanja Matic, for a fee of £21m he left his Benfica football shirt behind to star in the Chelsea kit. He is an attacking midfielder that Chelsea has been trying to sign for 2 years, he has signed a 4 and a half year contract and has stated that he is thrilled to be working with Mourinho and that 'he is one of the best managers in the world! Salah is a young Egyptian player that has left Basle to play Premier League football at Chelsea. The final new player that will be wearing the Chelsea home kit from now on is Kurt Zouma, he has left St Etienne for a fee of £12.5m. Zouma is a defender, the contract states that he will stay at St Etienne for the rest of the 2013 - 2014 season. He is due to join pre-season training at Chelsea where it will be decided if he will make the 1st team now.
