The Group Stage

It's a proud time to wear the Cote d'Ivoire jersey, now that the Elephants have finish at the top of their group stage round up. Prior to the start of the Cup of Nations, the team was drawn into Group D-alongside Guinea, Mali, and Cameroon.

With two 2014 World Cup participants in Group D, it was expected to be a competitive group. And competitive it was, with no clear frontrunner emerging even after each country had played two fixtures.

Indeed, the first four fixtures all ended with exactly the same 1-1 outcome. The Ivory Coast squad tied with Guinea in a home fixture, while Mali and Cameroon drew their own match. Next up, the Elephants played another game in the Ivory Coast home shirt 2014 2015, this time drawing 1-1 with Mali. The other two soccer teams tied their game, too.

So it was that, going into the final leg of fixtures, all of the teams in Group D were tied for first. Each country had played two games, drawn two games, and scored two goals. There was no way to determine a winner or leader.

Cameroon

Needless to say, the Elephants had something to prove as they donned the away version of the Cote d'Ivoire jersey for a January 28th football match against Cameroon's Indomitable Lions. It was the first time in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where they would be wearing the ivory green hues of the 2014 2015 away shirt.

Evidently, the green color brought a new breeze of good luck upon the Cote d'Ivoire soccer team. The squad finally broke the 1-1 draw cycle, shutting the Indomitable Lions out to win the game 1-0. Midfielder Max Gradel-who plays his regular season fixtures for French football club Saint-Etienne-was the hero of the match, scoring a goal at the 36-minute mark. Goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo, meanwhile, did the Ivory Coast away shirt proud by keeping a clean sheet.

The Quarterfinals

The win earns the Cote d'Ivoire squad a slot in the quarterfinals for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. In losing the last fixture in the groups round, Cameroon was automatically eliminated from the tournament. Mali and Guinea, meanwhile, tied their fixture at 1-1 and will now need to play a tiebreaker to determine who moves on and who is eliminated. In any case, though, the Ivory Coast is the outright winner of Group D.

So what's next for the Cote d'Ivoire lineup? On February 1st, they will wear the Ivory Coast home shirt 2014 2015 for a home fixture against Ghana. Like the Ivory Coast, Ghana was one of Africa's 2014 World Cup participants. The Ghana squad also won two of their fixtures in the groups, beating both South Africa and Algeria. In other words, the match-up between the two teams should make for a good football game.
