Edinson Cavani transfer gossip is rife, will his time at Paris Saint Germain be cut short this summer? Transfer rumors are swirling with regard to the 28-year-old Uruguayan striker, who just arrived at the Parc des Princes less than two years ago. Cavani has been a core component to PSG's offensive line for the 2013 2014 and 2014 2015 seasons though-particularly in cup and continental play. Losing him would be a major blow to the Parisians, who will likely win their third French Ligue 1 title in a row this year.

Cavani's Career

Prior to Edinson Cavani's arrival in Paris in the fall of 2013, the Uruguay attacker had already made a name for himself in the European football world. After launching his senior career with the Uruguayan club Danubio FC, Cavani quickly marked himself as someone with the ability to score goals reliably and consistently. Before his 20th birthday, he had netted 13 points in 30 appearances, catching the eye of numerous high profile soccer squads around the globe.

His first move wasn't to don the PSG jersey, though. On the contrary, for the 2006 2007 season, Edinson headed off to the Italian Serie A division to join Palermo. His performance there was middling for the first two seasons, but he eventually found his feet, and ended up making 117 apps and scoring 37 goals for the football club in four years.

Cavani's next move was to Napoli, where he truly became a star. For three straight seasons (from the autumn of 2010 to the spring of 2013), the Uruguayan striker was the club's top goal-scorer, netting an average overall tally of 104 goals in 138 fixtures. During his last season at Napoli, Cavani played 43 games and scored 38 goals between league, cup, and continental play-nearly one goal per game.

Paris Saint Germain

In 2013, Edinson Cavani made his biggest transfer yet, heading to the French Ligue 1 and donning the PSG jersey for an estimated fee of a €64.5 million. It was one of the biggest transfer fees ever paid, PSG Away Shirt 2014 - 2015period, and the Parisians expected Edinson to continue netting 30+ goals per season, as he had done at Napoli.

He's fallen short of those numbers in his time at Paris Saint Germain, but only slightly. Looking simply at Ligue 1 numbers, Cavani's figures could easily be construed as disappointing. He's scored 16 goals apiece in league play in his two seasons at Parc des Princes-not enough either year to make himself the club's leading goal scorer. (That title has belonged for the past three years to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.)

However, in cup and continental play, Edinson has more than done the PSG jersey proud. Prior to Paris Saint Germain's elimination from the 2014 2015 Champions League, for instance, Cavani netted a total of six goals-more than any other player from the Ligue 1. And in the 2014 Coupe de la Ligue, he scored both points in PSG's 2-1 victory over Olympique Lyon.

Transfer Rumors

All told, Edinson has scored 53 goals in just under 100 fixtures at Paris Saint Germain. Fans in the PSG away jersey 2014 2015 love him, and for good reason. But is his time at PSG coming to a close?

Originally, Cavani signed a five-year contract to play football at Paris Saint Germain. However, rumors are swirling that Manchester United is hoping to scoop him up during the summer transfer season. Edinson is reportedly calling for a £5.75-million-a-year salary, and sports world chatter says that United's Louis van Gaal is ready and willing to meet that figure. The question is, how much will the Red Devils need to pay the Parisians in order for PSG to let go of one of their star soccer players? It's not tough to see why Manchester wants Edinson Cavani. The club's top scorer this season was captain Wayne Rooney-who only scored 14 goals overall.

Only time will tell whether Cavani's time playing football in France is up. In the meantime, though, you can stop by Soccer Box to pick up a new PSG football jersey.
