FC Copenhagen are no strangers to success. In terms of Danish championship titles, they are the third most decorated football club in the country, and the only team in the top three that has won a title in the past 10 years. With that said, the soccer squad hasn't clinched a win in the Danish Superliga since 2012 2013, finishing second in both 2013 2014 (with AaB Fodbold taking the top spot) and 2014 2015 (as FC Midtjylland clinched their first win in the top flight). What are FC Copenhagen Danish Superliga prospects for 2015 2016? Could this season see the Copenhagen Lions returning to the zenith of Danish football?

Consistent Contenders

Even though the Lions haven't won the Superliga in two years, they are still arguably the safest bet to secure the top position in 2015 2016.

For one thing, Copenhagen have been remarkably consistent over the past 10 years. All but one of the football club's Danish championship titles have been attained since the turn of the century, with Copenhagen clinching Superliga victories in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013. (Their first top flight trophy came during the 1992 1993 season.)

Furthermore, Copenhagen have been Superliga runners-up on six additional occasions, first in 1994, and then again in 2002, 2005, 2012, 2014, and 2015. That leaves 2000 and 2008 as the only seasons since the start of the new millennium in which the Lions haven't been one of the Superliga's top two teams. In 2000, they finished eighth, but in 2008 they were third. In other words, it's been a decade and a half since the Lions failed to reach the podium.

Inconsistent Opponents

The other factor that will give fans in the FC Copenhagen home jersey 2015 2016 reason to believe in their club's chances of returning to the top of the table this year is the relative inconsistency of their Superliga opponents.

FC Copenhagen Home Shirt 2015 - 2016Consider this: after winning the 2013 2014 Superliga title-and beating FC Copenhagen to the title by a margin of six points-AaB tumbled to sixth place in the division this past season. The soccer team simply couldn't replicate their title-winning season, and dipped from a solid record of 18 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses (in 2013 2014) to a substantially weaker run of 13 wins, 9 draws, and 11 losses in 2014 2015.

In fact, Midtjylland is actually the bigger threat to Copenhagen, despite the fact that the club won their first-ever title last year. (AaB has won the Danish top-flight on four occasions, including the 2014 triumph.) FC Midtjylland were only one point behind the Lions at the end of the 2013 2014 season, and claimed the 2015 title primarily because they scored 24 more goals than Copenhagen. The Lions had better defensive numbers (only tallying 18 in the "goals against" column, compared to FC Midtjylland's 34), but they'll need a better offensive to steal the title back in 2014 2015.

Offensive Strength

The good news for FC Copenhagen fans is that the football club seems to have shored up their offense a bit this summer. They'll be keeping their top scorer from last year (Nicolai Jorgensen, who notched 10 goals in league competitions), continuing to develop their most promising young talent (2014 signing Andreas Cornelius, who added another eight goals for the Lions), bringing back Marvin Pourie (who tallied nine goals in 26 appearances while on loan to SønderjyskE last season), and counting on the skills of new transfer of Federico Santander (a Paraguayan footballer who scored 16 goals at Club Guarini last season).

Between those four offensive figures, do you think FC Copenhagen will have enough firepower to beat FC Midtjylland and return to the top of the Danish Superliga podium?
