Galatasaray will have to pick things up in September if they are going to defend their 2014 2015 Turkish Super Lig title. After the first month of the 2015 - 2016 Turkish Super Lig campaign, the reigning league champs are in ninth place, with only one win under their belt. Fenerbahce-2014's title winners and last season's number two team-have taken up residence at the top of the standings table instead.

A Close Race

Not that Fenerbahce have been dominant so far. The Yellow Canaries were off to a good season start in the first week of competition, donning the Fenerbahce home shirt 2015 2016 to score a 2-0 win against Eski?ehirspor. But Fenerbahce settled for a lukewarm draw in week two (1-1, with Rizespor), and have since collected a pair of one-point victories against Antalyaspor and Kas?mpa?a, respectively.

That record, of three wins and one draw, earns the Yellow Canaries a point total of 10 in the standings. That's identical to Trabzonspor, last season's fifth-place team and one of this season's most pleasant surprises. Trabzonspor are behind Fenerbahce at the moment thanks to solely goal difference. Both football clubs have scored six points, but Trabzonspor have allowed three and Fenerbahce have allowed only two. In other words, there is a close race at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table, which means that things will probably continue to shift around considerably as we progress further into the autumn months.

Other Contenders

Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor aren't even the only soccer teams contending in the close race at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. On the contrary, a month into the season, it looks like Be?ikta? could be huge spoilers in the league this year. The Black Eagles haven't won a Turkish national football title since 2009, but they have undoubtedly been one of the standout teams (if not the standout team) of the Super Lig so far this season.

Indeed, while Be?ikta? are one point back from the leaders in the standings-thanks to a week two loss against Trabzonspor-they have also shown strong offensive strength. With 12 goals scored in their four games so far-and three players who have already managed at least two goals this season-Be?ikta? clearly cannot be ruled out as potential contenders this season.

Surprisingly, Be?ikta? don't even have the top scorer in the league at the moment. Black Eagles forward Cenk Tosun is close to the mark, having scored four goals thus far-including an impressive hat-trick in Be?ikta?' 5-2 win at Mersin ?dmanyurdu.

However, the top scorer for the 2015 2016 campaign is currently Samuel Eto'o. The talented Eto'o is new to the Turkish Super Lig this season, having signed with Antalyaspor during the summer transfer window. He's already scored five points for the football club, elevating Antalyaspor to fourth place in the league standings. Antalyaspor earned promotion from Turkey's second division after finishing fourth and winning the playoff last season. Their ascension to the upper echelons of the Super Lig is impressive, to say the least.

Galatasaray's Woes

If Antalyaspor are having a shockingly successful Super Lig season so far, Galatasaray are experiencing the exact opposite. After winning a 20th league title in 2014 2015, Galatasaray struggled to gain a foothold in the first month of the 2015 2016 campaign.

The soccer club had one shining moment in week three when they won 4-1 in an away match against Konyaspor. But two draws and one loss have earned Galatasaray just two additional points in the standings. They'll need to get their lineup in order in the coming matches if they are going to have a chance of competing with Fenerbahce and Be?ikta? for the title. Fenerbahce are looking to tie Galatasaray's 20-title tally this year while Be?ikta? are going for their 14th.
