27th December 2017.
First seen in the 2017 World Cup qualifiers, this Germany home kit has already become a popular purchase for supporters across the globe. Aiming to defend their Champions title, the 2018 FIFA World Cup has been widely anticipated. Continuing with their signature black and white base, this colour scheme has been expanded on, and now includes the details as well as the background. Therefore, creating a distraction-free monochrome look to their 2018 home strip.
Retro Inspiration for the 2018 Germany Football Kit Home Edition
Conforming to a long history of kits, the home jersey is white in colour with black printed and embroidered accents. This particular colour scheme was inspired by the centre circle of the Germany crest whereby the eagle is used to represent the German coat of arms.
Adorned to the centre of the shirt is the FIFA 2014 World Champions patch which the team acquired in Brazil. This is the only feature in colour which allows this to stand prominently to the rest of the jersey. Above this, to the right is the Adidas logo in black embroidery and proudly woven to the left of this is the Germany crest. As well as this, the three Adidas stripes have been stitched onto the sleeves in black fabric. The words 'Die Mannschaft' meaning 'The Team' have also been printed on the reverse of the shirt.
Across the chest of the Germany home jersey 2017/19, is a striped line design which has been printed in black. Similar to the pattern used on the 1990 strip, this shirt reintroduces a historic point in time which brought them a World Cup victory in Italy. Previously, when manufactured by Umbro, this design was printed using the team's signature colours black, red and yellow.
Technological Innovation in the German Home Kit
Ensuring that the wearer remains dry and cool, Adidas has introduced their Climalite moisture wicking technology to the shirt. To prevent moisture from building up, this fabric increases the rate of evaporation greatly by drawing excess perspiration away from the body.
For this 2018 home strip, Germany has chosen a black base for their shorts, which was last used in their 2010 kit for South Africa. After switching up their design for 2014 where they wore white shorts, they have decided to revert back to their core choice seen across multiple seasons.
Located on the right leg of the home shorts is the Germany crest in white, and the Adidas logo can also be seen on the side of the left thigh in white embroidery. Sewn on to the sides of the shorts are the signature three stripes of Adidas in a white fabric.
White is the main colour of the home socks, located around the cuffs are the Adidas stripes in black. And in the centre on the front are the letters 'DFB' which stand for 'Deutscher Fussball-Bund'. These words translate to 'German Football Association' and they can also be seen within the club's crest.
By contouring the socks to the shape of the left and right foot, they have been manufactured to enhance comfort and improve performance. There are also areas of cushioning for added protection to key areas such as the arches and ankles.
