This year is an exciting year for football fans around the world. On 12th June 2014 the FIFA World Cup kicks-off in Brazil. After a tough qualifying process involving 207 teams from the 6 FIFA Continental Zones the 32 finalists have now been chosen. One of the unlucky losers in World Cup history, the Netherlands has once again qualified. Will this be their year? Will we ever see a star on the Holland football shirt?
A World Cup Record to be Forgotten!Â
The Netherlands national soccer team has qualified for 10 World Cup tournaments, including this years. Â They currently hold the record for reaching the most World Cup finals without ever winning the trophy. In 1974, 1978 and 2010 the Holland football shirt appeared in the final. The last tournament was held in South Africa in 2010, the Netherlands team met Spain in the final.

Louis van Gaal is a Dutch soccer manager and took over the role of head coach to the Netherlands squad in 2012. Louis van Gaal has had a successful football management career, he has managed some top clubs including, Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Van Gaal previously had a short spell as Holland manager from 2000 - 2002, the team failed to qualify for the World Cup resulting in him stepping down. He returned purely with the intention of qualifying for Brazil 2014 and taking the team wearing the Netherlands soccer jersey to the furthest stage possible, his main ambition is to win the World Cup.

The national football team of the Netherlands, also known as the Holland team, played their 1st international in 1905.
They have performed well in both the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championships. In the World Cup they have reached more finals without winning the trophy than any other team.
In Europe Holland lifted the trophy as winners in 1988.

The Dutch national football team has been in existence since 1905 when they played their first international match against Belgium. Â Â After the first World Cup competition was held in 1930 the Dutch side played in the 1934 and 1938 rounds, but then due to either not entering, or failing to qualify they did not play in the tournament again until the teams golden years of the 1970s. Â During this period in the Netherlands teams such as Ajax and Feyenoord took a different approach to their style of play referred to as 'total football'. The 1970 World Cup winning Brazilian team captain Alberto has said 'their style of play was amazing to watch', this was referring to the Dutch team during the 1974 World Cup. During this same tournament the Dutch team reached the final for the first time but lost to Germany.
