There is no doubt Arsenal are a decent football team and show skill in the Arsenal Nike football kit, but the club have failed to win the Premier League since the 2003-4 season. Ever since the squad won the title at the end of the 2003 season they have not won one ever since. From 2004-05 when they finished second every other season after that they finished third or fourth and this year was no different with the Gunners only managing fourth place.
Finishing the season inside the top four is a big achievement, getting the chance to play champions league football is always a great thing in football, but the fans seem to be becoming tired of the managers tactics, especially during the transfer windows. During season 12/13 Wenger did sign four players, these were Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud, Nacho Monreal and Lukas Podolski. So far since they joined they have done well, Cazorla is the leading goalscorer with 12 goals, Giroud and Podolski are both on 11 and Monreal has scored 1. Being a top four club most football fans expect the managers to bring in big names for large amounts of money. Apart from these players the only forward in the side is Theo Walcott who has done remarkable well for the squad. Other teams seem to outplay Arsenal when it comes to signing players. For example Manchester United spent a fair amount of money during the 12-13 season, £22 million of this went on Robin Van Persie from Arsenal, £15 million on Wifried Zaha, £12 million on Kagawa and much more. Manchester City and Chelsea also spent fair amounts of money on big name players.
During the January transfer window Wenger did attempt to sign Barcelona's £14 million rated David Villa but the deal fell through so this could be a player he could try and sign again. During this seasons summer transfer window he has so far been linked with Manchester United's unsettled Wayne Rooney, Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool's Luis Suarez but no deals have yet been done. The fans are constantly getting their hopes up when talk and rumours fly around about possible moved to the Emirates and are now starting to get annoyed. On one article Wenger had said that the club would not have a problem affording Wayne Rooney's wages, one anonymous member of the public commented "It's one thing to say we can afford players like Rooney but another thing signing them. This summer has been all talk and no action with only one signing so far, if we are to get anywhere this season we need to act otherwise it will be another trophy less season!"
Even Arsenal's Mikel Arteta has expressed his excitement about possible big named players joining the squad, he said that the club themselves made a public comment that they were going to make some big signings. But so far the only player the club have signed is Yaya Sanago who signed on a free. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere stated "Everyone at the training ground has been talking about big-name signings,". Arsene did try and secure the signature of Liverpool's Luis Suarez but the club turned down a £30 million offer from the club, they have been told to come back with a much improved offer or he is not leaving. The Uruguan striker himself was said to be flattered by the Gunners trying to sign him, even though this bid was rejected it is rumored that the manager would be prepared to pay £40 million to trigger his buy out clause,
We will have to just wait and see whether the manager can make any big signings this summer to enhance his club's chances of finishing the season higher than third place, now closest rival Tottenham are constantly chasing their tails they need to change something around for the new 2013-14 season.
Do you think Arsene and the rest of the staff are doing enough to make big signings?
Who would be your ideal player to sign for them?
