Last year's Inter Milan away jersey was a break with tradition, trading the white, black, and blue design of past away kits for a white shirt with light grey striping and red detailing. If the goal was to establish a new look for a new era of Internazionale prosperity, that mission was ultimately a failure. The Black and Blues stumbled to an eighth place finish on the 2014 2015 Italian Serie A table. They still edged out their crosstown rivals, AC Milan, by two slots, but the result was a far cry from the five-year winning streak that the Black and Blues enjoyed from 2006 to 2010. Is the Inter Milan away kit 2015 - 2016 a lucky charm for the upcoming Serie A season?
Unsurprisingly, for the Inter Milan away jersey 2015 2016, kit manufacturer Nike has decided to revert to a more classic design. Ditching the red style of the 2014 2015 shirt, Nike and Inter Milan have opted instead for a white jersey that matches better with Internazionale's traditional away kits of football seasons past.
The Away Jersey
The away kit boasts a predominantly white design, but still offers plenty of color, as well. Two bold bands of color-the top one blue, the bottom one black-wrap around the chest, with the logo of kit sponsor Driver in the center.
This is the first time that the Driver brand name has ever appeared on an Inter Milan shirt, and breaks a long tradition of the Pirelli brand name being a feature of Internazionale soccer jerseys. Pirelli, a multinational tire brand, has been Inter's primary kit sponsor since 1995.
In fact, Pirelli still is the prime kit sponsor for the Black and Blues. Indeed, the company's logo will be featured prominently once more on the 2015 2016 home jersey. Driver, then, is a brand owned by Pirelli that doesn't just offer tires, but also mechanical repairs and other car services.
The 2009 2010 Away Kit
Regardless of which brand name they put on Inter Milan's shirts, though, Pirelli will ultimately be hoping for big wins and plentiful success for the football club this year. The goal is the same for Nike, who reportedly took inspiration from Internazionale's 2009 2010 away kit for this year's design.
Since 2009 2010 was the last season in which the Black and Blues won a Serie A title (as well as the year in which they won the Champions League, for the first time since the mid-1960s), it's not difficult to see what Nike and Inter Milan are aiming to evoke. Of course, the football club won't be participating in the Champions League in 2015 2016 (or in the Europa League, for that matter), but a return to the Serie A podium is enough for most fans to hope for.
A Modern Twist
One of the coolest characteristics of the Inter Milan away jersey 2015 2016 is the subtle graphic of Il Biscione. The "grass snake," shown in the graphic as a coiled viper, is a huge part of the heritage of the city of Milan. Linked with numerous important, often ruling families in the history of Milan, the snake shows significant city pride and should make the 2015 2016 Internazionale away jersey a must-have for local soccer fans.
This is the second time that Inter have incorporated the viper into their away jersey design (the first being 2010 2011), and serves as another callback to a successful soccer season. While the Black and Blues actually lost the Serie A title in 2011-for the first time in half a decade, no less-they still finished in second place, won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italia, clinched the FIFA Club World Cup, reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League, and finished as runners-up in the UEFA Supercup. Needless to say, Il Biscione brought luck to Inter Milan before, and will hopefully do so once more.
