Unfortunately, the Great Danes have struggled to live up to that status with the 2014 2015 season. Not only did OSC Lille fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and not only were they eliminated from the Europa League after the group stage, but they've also been lagging behind in Ligue 1 itself. The 2014 2015 Ligue 1

The 2014 2015 Ligue 1 started off well enough for Lille. The club returned from summer training with a lukewarm at-home draw with Metz, but bounced back quickly, winning three of their first five fixtures. The wins-home victories against Lorient and Nantes, and an away triumph over Caen-left the Great Danes temporarily at the top of the league table after week five.

Unfortunately for fans in the Lille shirt, the stint at the top didn't last long. A scoreless draw with Montpellier the next week dropped the Great Danes to fourth. Shortly thereafter, things got worse. In October and November, the soccer squad lost five of their seven matches, tumbling all the way to 15th place on the league table. My how the mighty had fallen.

Since then, things have gotten better for the team-though only slightly. On December 14th, players put on the Lille football shirt for a home fixture against Toulouse. The result was a 3-0 victory-Lille's biggest win of the entire 2014 2015 season so far.

The big home win instilled some new momentum in the Great Danes, and December and January were certainly better months for the team than October and November. A pair of winning Ligue 1 home games, against Evian and Caen, got the New Year off to a good start for the soccer squad. Furthermore, a decent run in the 2014 2015 Coupe de la Ligue (cut unfortunately short by PSG at the beginning of February) gave fans in the Lille shirt something else to be happy about.

A Long Road Back 

Still, even though things have at least partially turned around for OSC, the football team still has a long ways to go if they are going to live up to last season's top three finish. After all, it's a long road back from 15th place to third.

Unfortunately, a spot in the top three or five might now be out of reach for the Great Danes. Since the beginning of the New Year, the club has been flitting between 13th and 11th place on the 2014 2015 league standings table. A decent run of victories could easily boost them up to seventh or eighth, since the clubs in the middle of the table all have pretty similar records and point totals. However, considering the fact that the leading teams in the division are 17 or 18 points ahead of Lille, the club might have to settle for a lower finish this year.
