A Strong Season Start

After all, you already have good reason to bedeck your children in items like the Liverpool infant sleepsuit. After finishing the Premier League season in second place last spring, the Liverpool football club is commencing the 2014 2015 season in style.

Indeed, Liverpool is already near the top of the table for the year, thanks to the opening match win against Southampton. The match, a home fixture for Liverpool, brought fans out to Anfield in droves, and the Liverpool squad didn't disappoint with a 2-1 victory.

The two goals were scored by Liverpool veterans, with winger Raheem Sterling who has been signed with Liverpool since 2012 netting the first point at the 23-minute mark. A goal from Southampton's Nathaniel Clyde equalized the score at 56 minutes, but Liverpool legend and striker Daniel Sturridge took the lead back with a goal at the 78-minute mark. An assist from Sterling helped Sturridge land the match-deciding goal.

The Season Outlook

Liverpool's opening Premier League match was certainly a crowd-pleaser for fans, whether they were clad in a standard home shirt or a Liverpool infant sleepsuit. The game showed that Liverpool hasn't lost any of the momentum, energy, or hunger that fueled the team's drive throughout the majority of last season.

If there was anything disappointing about the season opener, it was that none of Liverpool's new team members announced themselves as players to watch.

Both Sturridge and Sterling are on the newer end of Liverpool's player roster: Sturridge came aboard at Anfield last year, while Sterling has two seasons under his belt. However, both were already predicted by most fans to play key roles in Liverpool's offensive line this year, particularly after the departure of last season's top scorer, Luis Suarez.

New Players

Meanwhile, the majority of Liverpool's transfers remain untested. Of the eight new signings that the Liverpool football club made over the summer, manager Brandon Rodgers only sent three of them into the match against Southampton. Those three were center back Dejan Lovren, right back Javier Manquillo, and striker Rickie Lambert.

Lambert's appearance in the Southampton match was particularly notable, as he was playing against a club where he just recently spent five seasons. In his time at Southampton, Lambert made 235 appearances and scored 117 goals, helping the club climb from League One into the Championship league, and finally into the Premier League.

But while Lambert didn't score against his former team, that doesn't mean he won't prove to be a valuable addition to Liverpool. Undoubtedly, all eight of Liverpool's new players will get opportunities to shine in their own way, just like Sturridge and Sterling did against Southampton match.
