Liverpool football club is one of the most successful teams in England. Their most successful performances have been in Europe, they hold the record for winning more European trophies than any other English football club. They have won the top-flight of English football 18 times, but since the introduction of the Premier League in 1992 the team that wears the Liverpool shirts has not won the league.

Despite their lack of recent league titles Liverpool FC enjoys a big following of loyal supporters, both in England and around the world. The team's fans were certainly not disappointed this weekend when their squad met the Arsenal team on home turf at Anfield. Anfield has been the home ground of Liverpool football club since 1884, there are plans for a new stadium with a larger capacity, but due to financing issues as of yet these have come to no avail.

On Saturday 8th February 2014 Liverpool was scheduled to play against Arsenal in the Premier League. Arsenal has won 13 league titles, including 3 Premier League trophies. The 2013 - 2014 season has been fantastic for the Gunners who went into the game in the top spot of the Premier League table. Arsenal was hoping to retain this position, however, the team that wears the Liverpool shirts had not lost a match since 29th December and were looking to retain that record.

It was to be an action packed game, giving the home fans much to cheer about. Skrtel, who wears the number 37 Liverpool kits, opened the scoring for the home side during the 1st minute, and added a 2nd in the 10th minute. 2 goals inside 10 minutes were enough to boost Liverpool's confidence, and shake that of Arsenal who had arrived confident in maintaining their top-spot.

Another exciting 10 minutes were to follow. The fans wearing the Liverpool shirts were overwhelmed with enthusiasm. After only 20 minutes the score was 4-0. Sterling netted in the 16th minute and Sturridge found the net in the 20th. The remainder of the 1st half was goal free although that wasn't due to lack of chances for the home team.

After such an eventful 1st half Liverpool's 2nd half performance was more subdued. Sterling added a 2nd in the 52nd minute, but the team confident of a win with the score line 5-0 defended. Overall throughout the match Arsenal had significantly more possession of the ball, but chances on goal were limited in comparison to the home side. Arsenal did claw back some self-respect as Arteta scored from the penalty spot in the 69th minute.

Beating Arsenal 5-1 is a fabulous result for the team that wears the Liverpool shirts. Arsenal has been knocked off the top-spot and Liverpool is secure in 4th looking to qualify for Champions League football next season. Only 6 points separate the top 4 teams. With 13 matches left all is still to play for in this seasons eventful Premier League. Liverpool supporters will be looking for more strong performances throughout the remainder of the season.
