The Season so Far
If you are shopping at Soccer Box for a Liverpool Warrior training kit, chances are pretty good that you've been keeping up with the club's Premier League football action this season. If not, though, here's a brief recap.
Liverpool's players looked strong at their opening match of the season, a home fixture against Southampton. After the 2013 2014 Premier League season, which saw Liverpool landing in the runner-up position, few expected the team to lose the Southampton match, and Liverpool FC didn't disappoint.
Star players Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge scored the goals to give Liverpool the 2-1 leg up over Southampton. Fans at Anfield, wearing a range of Liverpool gear that included home shirts and the Liverpool red presentation jacket 2014 2015, were gleefully celebratory over the win.
Season Struggles
Unfortunately, Liverpool has not been able to start a winning streak or retain much momentum this season. The Southampton win was answered by a 3-1 away loss to Manchester City.
As last season's Premier League champions, Man City was always going to be a tough opponent for Liverpool-especially so early in the season. However, Liverpool certainly seemed to be missing the contributions of striker Luis Suarez at this match in particular.
Suarez was Liverpool's top goal-scorer (and the top scorer in the entire Premier League) during the 2013 2014 season. He departed for Barcelona after the biting scandal at the World Cup, but his offensive power was certainly sorely missed in Liverpool's Manchester City match. Indeed, the only goal Liverpool "scored" during the match was an own goal from Man City defender, Pablo Zabaleta.
Liverpool regained scoring momentum at a 3-0 match against Tottenham Hotspur. Raheem Sterling netted his second goal of the season, while Captain Steven Gerrard and left-back Alberto Moreno scored their first goals of the season. For Moreno, who transferred to Liverpool this year, it was his first goal ever with the club.
Heartbreak at Anfield
While the Tottenham match helped restore some of the hope in this year's Liverpool squad, the positive atmosphere was short-lived. A week later, Liverpool suffered heartbreak at Anfield when it faced the Aston Villa football club.
Last season, Aston Villa narrowly avoided relegation, landing in 15th place on the Premier League table. The team's record of 10 wins, 8 draws, and 20 losses was weak, especially when compared to Liverpool's 26-6-6 record. Based on the numbers, virtually anyone would have pointed to Liverpool as the likely winner in the match.
But what should have been an easy win for Liverpool ended up being disastrous. Aston Villa's Gabriel Imuetinyan scored a goal eight minutes into the match, after which Aston Villa held strong defensively to win the match 1-0. Without a star striker like Luis Suarez, Liverpool was never able to mount a charge.
The Season to Come
Not that the Aston Villa match has to be reason for Liverpool fans not to pick up the Liverpool red presentation jacket 2014 2015 and support the team. Aston Villa has been on something of a winning streak this season, so it's possible that the team is just hot this year-despite last year's stats.
The same can't be said for a week four match against West Ham, where Liverpool lost 3-1 in West Ham's second win of the season. Still, the loss could simply be the product of low spirits and poor momentum in the Liverpool FC camp.
There are also many months left in the 2014 2015 Premier League. Liverpool will have ample chances to improve its position and make up for those Man City, Aston Villa, and West Ham losses. In short, nothing is decided yet.
Cheer for Liverpool and help the club return to last season's high level of play! You can support Liverpool today by stopping by Soccer Box and ordering a Liverpool training kit.
