Manchester City and Chelsea may be duking it out for the top slot in the 2014 2015 English Premier division, but neither team will be winning the FA Cup title this year. After a tumultuous weekend of fourth round play, both top-flight English squads have been eliminated from the oldest association football tournament in the world. Luckily, the Sky Blues still remain strong contenders in both the Premier League and the 2014 2015 UEFA Champions League. You can celebrate that fact today with a brand new Man City shirt, available at Soccer Box!
Soccer Box has ample stock available of Sky Blue shirt variations this season. Are you fan of the cool light blue Manchester City home jersey 2014 2015? Do you prefer the darker blue hues of the club's away shirt? Or do you march to the beat of your own drummer, with the green goalkeeper jersey or the purple third shirt? Regardless of the styles and colors you prefer, Soccer Box has the Manchester City jersey for you.
MiddlesbroughÂ
It was a tough weekend for fans in the Man City shirt, as the Sky Blues faced off against Middlesbrough in an FA Cup fixture. By all accounts, the game should have been an easy victory for Manchester. For one thing, the game was played at their home ground of Etihad Stadium.
For another thing, Middlesbrough is a team that plays in the second rung of English football. And while the squad will likely earn promotion to the Premier division after the current 2014 2015, that fact still would never earn them frontrunner status over the reigning Premier League championship.
But even clad in the Manchester City home jersey 2014 2015 and playing in front of a supportive crowd, the Sky Blues couldn't beat Middlesbrough. Indeed, the home Man City squad didn't even score a single goal in the fixture. Instead, they allowed Middlesbrough to take the lead at the 50-minute mark and widen it just before the end of regulation time. The final score was 0-2, in favor of the away squad.
For the team in the Man City shirt, the loss was a huge disappointment-and not just because it came against a team that they should have easily beaten. On the contrary, this is the second time in the last five years that the Sky Blues have been eliminated from the FA Cup in the fourth round. And while two of the other years brought a tournament win and a runner-up finish respectively, this defeat still highlights Man City's ongoing struggles in the world's oldest football tournament.
A Weekend of Upsets
Not that Manchester City is in bad company. This weekend brought a slew of FA Cup upsets, and saw many of England's finest football clubs eliminated from the tournament.
For instance, Chelsea FC lost 2-4 in a home match against third-tier club Bradford City. Chelsea even had the lead in the first half, scoring two unanswered points and setting the stage for what looked like a runaway victory. A point from Bradford City's Jon Stead shifted the momentum just before halftime, though, and Bradford scored three goals in the second half to win.
Southampton was also eliminated this weekend, losing 2-3 in a home game against Crystal Palace. And Manchester United kept itself alive, but only just barely, forcing a 0-0 draw with fourth-tier club, Cambridge United. Of the 2014 2015 Premier League's top five teams, only Arsenal moved on to the fifth round without issue.
So what's the issue here? Why are England's best football teams being beaten by lower-ranked clubs in tournaments like this one? Why is it that the wearers of the Manchester City home jersey 2014 2015 can beat a team like Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but can't beat an English club that is, literally, not even in their league. Perhaps England's top soccer squads aren't taking events like the FA Cup as seriously as they should.
Still, fans of the Sky Blues have plenty to look forward to for the remainder of the 2014 2015 season. Celebrate that fact with a new Man City shirt, available now at Soccer Box. Whether you are looking for a home shirt or an away jersey, a goalkeeper jersey or a third, you can find it here.
