Manchester City is an English Premier League football club. From the 1980s the club had a period of little success, even being relegated from the top-flight in 1998. However, in recent years their fortunes have changed. This season Manuel Pellegrini has taken on the role of manager. He believes the team can win a record number of trophies, and wants to see the players that wear the Manchester City jersey, lift an unprecedented 4 this season.

In 2008 the Abu Dhabi United Group bought the club, this has been the catalyst for change that has made them one of the strongest teams in the Premier League. In 2012 they lifted the top-flight trophy for the 1st time in 44 years. The Manchester City jersey has always been popular, the club having a large number of fans even through the troubled years. However, recently demand for the team kits has exploded.

Manuel Pellegrini is a Chilean football manager. Before taking on the role of manager to the team that wears the Manchester City jersey, he had proven himself to be a successful football coach.  He moved to Europe in 2004 when he was offered the role of Villarreal manager. He led them to a 2nd place La Liga finish, and Champions League football, before being spotted by Spanish rivals Real Madrid.

He spent only 1 season at Real Madrid before moving to Malaga. Here he also made a huge impact, securing them qualification for Champions League football, and a 4th place league finish. In May 2013 he announced that he would be joining the Premier League as Manchester City manager. Roberto Manchini the team's former manager was sacked after the players wearing the Manchester City jersey lost the FA Cup final to Wigan Athletic.

Pellegrini's debut season in charge has been eventful. Playing in the Manchester City home soccer jersey 2013 - 2014, at their Etihad Stadium, the team has been unstoppable, posting some superb results. They beat current champions Manchester United 4-1 in September. In November they beat Norwich 7-0 and Spurs 6-0. More recently they beat Arsenal 6-3 and in the League Cup they thrashed West Ham 6-0.

However, away from home, wearing the Manchester City jersey, the team's form has been less consistent. Earlier in the season, some commentators were concerned about the team's away performance, speculating that if it didn't improve they would be out of contention for all competitions. This situation has improved since November, leading Pellegrini to speculate about the trophies he would like to win this season.

This season the team that wears the Manchester City jersey is competing in 4 competitions, the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Champions League. Pellegrini has stated that he would like to achieve the unachievable and win all 4 during his 1st season in charge. No team has ever won all 4 in one season, Manchester United came the closest winning the treble in 1999, but they missed out on the League Cup.

Vincent Kompany, who wears the number 4 Manchester City jersey, has supported his manager. He has stated, that it is 'inevitable' that Manchester City will win the quadruple at some time in the 'near future'.  If the team and manager are united with the same aim and determination it may be that Manchester City will lift all 4 trophies.

Do you think Pellegrini's aim is achievable? What do you think of Manchester City's performance this season?
