At the end of last season Sir Alex announced his retirement after 26 years on the throne at Old Trafford, he has been heralded as the most successful football manager of all time. Despite their abysmal performance in league matches, the Manchester United squad has pulled out all the stops so far in this years UEFA Champions League. Manchester United finished top of Group A after some strong wins including a 5-0 thrashing of Bayer 04 Leverkuson.

The round of 16 saw Manchester United drawn against Greek club Olympiakos. The 1st leg at Olympiakos was a disaster for the team wearing the Manchester United away kit. Losing 2-0 they had it all to do during the home leg, and do it they did. Manchester United secured their quarterfinal place with a surprise 3-0 win. Robin Van Persie's hat-trick giving them a 3-2 win on aggregate and a surprise continuation of European football.

The draw however, has not been kind to Manchester United. They will face current Champions League holders Bayern Munich. Bayern Munich has been favorite to retain the trophy throughout the entire competition and this would have been Man Utd last choice of opponent. Adding insult to injury following a hamstring injury Robin Van Persie will not be in the starting lineup. Manchester United will not be favorites to win, but can Moyes overcome his critics and shine on the European stage, keep watching, this is a tie not to be missed!
