With the minutes dwindling in Manchester United's Sunday away fixture against West Ham United, it looked as if the Red Devils were going to pick up their second loss of the New Year. Trailing by one point with just moments to go in regulation time, the squad was sitting in an uncomfortable situation. Luckily for Man Utd, Daley Blind netted an equalizer at 90+2, tying the game and securing his side a draw. Fans in the Manchester United shirt were able to breathe a sigh of relief.
The draw will cost the Red Devils the third-place slot on the 2014 2015 Premier League table-at least for the time being. They swap spots with Southampton, who won an away fixture against Queens Park Rangers this weekend. However, they are only one spot back and could easily move back into the winner's circle with a few victories. Root for the football club today, with a new official shirt from Soccer Box! West Ham
The wearers of the Manchester United shirt topped West Ham back in September, when the two teams first met for the 2014 2015 Premier League. The win came at Man Utd's home ground of Old Trafford, and featured goals from stars like Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie.
Things didn't run as smoothly for the squad in their second match-up with West Ham. For one thing, they were playing away from home. For another, Rooney and Van Persie remained scoreless throughout the match, and nearly got themselves into trouble with referee Mark Clattenburg.
A Parade of Penalties
Yellow cards and red cards were a big problem for Manchester United's football players during Sunday's away match. Indeed, supporters in the Man Utd kids away jersey 2014 2015 witnessed not one flag-and not two-but five throughout the 90 minutes of play time.
Rooney earned a yellow card, as did defender Marcos Rojo. Robin Van Persie didn't actually get booked, but easily could have been. The Dutch striker accidentally elbowed West Ham's James Tompkins in the face during the first half. Clattenburg didn't show a yellow card on the play, but did award Tompkins a free kick.
The main offender, though, was Luke Shaw the man in defense, who was shown two yellow cards and one red, all in quick succession, near the end of the football game. That left Man Utd one player short for the final moments of the fixture.
Luckily, by the time Shaw was sent off, the score had already been equalized at 1-1. Daley Blind did the Manchester United shirt proud at the 90+2 minute mark, netting a goal to finally put his team on the board. Luke Shaw was booked a minute later, but by that point, the soccer match was all but over.
So it was that Manchester United narrowly snatched a draw right from the jaws of defeat. Even though the outcome sets the club back a bit, in terms of 2014 2015 Premier League standings, the draw was still a reason to celebrate. Daley Blind's last-minute goal was a saving grace, and from kids in the Man Utd kids away jersey 2014 2015, to veteran supporters in vintage away shirts, the football club's supporters had plenty of reason to be happy.
Next up, Man United will play a home fixture against Burnley. The game, which takes place this evening, will call for a quicker-than-usual turnaround between Premier League fixtures. That also means, Manchester's players won't have as much time as usual to rest. However, the Red Devils do have something to prove against Burnley. When the two football teams played one another in the fall, the outcome was a scoreless draw.
Will Man Utd be able to beat Burnley this week? Will they reclaim their top-three position from Southampton? Tune in on Wednesday to find out!
