The Match: What Went Down

The Red Devils donned the Manchester United home jersey 2015 2016 and took the pitch at Old Trafford to take on Liverpool. However, it took a little while before their home field advantage really seemed to kick in. Indeed, after the first half of play, the football match was still stalemated at 0-0.

It wasn't until the opening minutes of the second half that Manchester midfielder Daley Blind took an assist from Juan Mata to score the first goal of the match. From there on out, it was like puzzle pieces falling into place for the Red Devils. At the 70-minute mark, Ander Herrara drained a penalty goal to make the score 2-0. And while Christian Benteke-Liverpool's highest profile signing of the summer transfer window-brought Liverpool back within one point at 84 minutes, the comeback surge was decidedly brief.

While Daley Blind was likely the man of the match-having opened the scoring and cleared a potential Liverpool goal from the line-it was the last 10 minutes of the game that were most exciting. Benteke's goal had Liverpool fans wondering if their soccer club could make a comeback and manage at least a draw against the Red Devils. But at the 86-minute mark, Manchester United had arguably the biggest moment of their season so far.

Anthony Martial's Big Arrival

The big moment? The inaugural goal at Manchester United for French teenager, Anthony Martial.

On transfer deadline day, Louis van Gaal shocked the world by paying £36 million to bring Martial to England. A 19-year-old striker who previously played for Monaco, Martial immediately became the most expensive signing of the summer for Manchester United. He was also the most expensive teenage signing in the history of football, and his fee could potentially rise to £58 million with bonuses and add-ons.

Martial's goal made the score 3-1 and gave Manchester United a big win over Liverpool. Almost more importantly, though, it showed that the French youngster can handle the heightened pressure of the Premier League-almost always one of the big questions with standout players signed from other leagues. If Anthony's career at Old Trafford lives up to his debut, we could be looking at the start of a new soccer golden age for the Red Devils.
