The 2013 2014 season was a strong one for the Monaco football club. The team ended the year with 23 wins, 11 draws, and 4 losses, trailing behind Paris Saint Germain on the French Ligue 1 championship table. It was the closest Monaco had gotten to winning France's top soccer division since landing a runner-up position in 2003, and it seemed to herald strong things for the 2014 2015 season. Unfortunately, the Monaco football shirt has not been the sign of a frontrunner so far.
Hoping that Monaco can turn things around as the Ligue 1 season progresses? Stop by Soccer Box today, and check out our new selection of Monaco soccer team gear. We are especially fond of the brand-new Monaco home jersey 2014 2015, a red and white Nike shirt whose colors are divided by a diagonal line shooting from the left shoulder to the right hip. Regardless of Monaco's current position near the bottom of the Ligue 1 table, it's still a stunning shirt worth owning for fans of the team.
Recent History
Monaco's performance this season has been marked by 3 losses, 1 draw, and only 1 win. The poor record has left the Monaco team in 19th place on the current Ligue 1 table with only Evian saving the club from dead last.
This second-to-last-place performance is surprising for a team that was the runner-up in the division just last year. Ironically, what comes as a surprise for the Monaco team this year would have been much more expected for the 2013 2014 season.
Last year, around this time, Monaco was coming back into Ligue 1 after two seasons spent playing in Ligue 2. Monaco was relegated to the second tier of French soccer after a mediocre 2010 2011 season performance forced the team down. The 2011 2012 season was even worse for Monaco, ending with the club in eighth place on the Ligue 2 table.
The 2012 2013 season was something of a rise-from-the-ashes moment for the wearers of the Monaco football shirt. Monaco leapt from eighth place to first place with a solid record of 21 wins, 13 draws, and 4 losses. Just like that, the club was back in Ligue 1.
The Monaco squad continued to surprise everyone last year, maintaining a similar record (23 wins, 11 draws, 4 losses) despite the loftier challenges of the Ligue 1 division. Monaco couldn't quite contend with the defending champions from Paris Saint Germain, but the club still looked to be in a strong position coming into this season.
2014 2015 Season Struggles
Unfortunately, since donning the Monaco home jersey 2014 2015, the Monaco players have not shown the same fire that so characterized their performances from the past two seasons. At their Ligue 1 season opener, Monaco suffered an at-home loss to Lorient, last season's eighth-place finisher. Bordeaux dealt Monaco an even harsher 4-0 defeat in the second match of the year, and a third loss at the hands of Lyon has put Monaco spirits at an all-time low.
To be fair, Monaco's early season matches have been anything but easy. Lyon was a top-five Ligue 1 team last season, while Lille-with whom Monaco drew a 1-1 match at the end of August-was the second runner-up. Monaco's other opponents this year have all been top 10 finishers from the 2013 2014 Ligue 1 table so far.
Hope on the Horizon?
Monaco can, of course, still turn things around. The club's upcoming three fixtures will be played against Guingamp, Montpellier, and Nice-all clubs that just narrowly avoided relegation last season. On October 5, Monaco will get the chance to take on reigning Ligue 1 champs, PSG. A win in that particular match would do a lot to change the tone of the conversations that fans and experts alike are having about the Monaco football shirt and the team.
So what's the story with Monaco? Has the club lost the fire that defined its last two seasons, or are they just rusty? If you prefer to believe the latter, stop by Soccer Box today to pick up a Monaco home jersey 2014 - 2015, and show the team a bit of extra support.
