Monaco Away Shirt 2014 - 2015When the Monaco football club decided to switch from Macron to Nike as its kit designer, it was clear that the latter sportswear company was going to mix things up a bit. Now, with the new and improved versions of the Monaco soccer jersey officially available for the 2014 2015 season, we can freely gush about how much we like the new designs.

The Monaco away shirt 2014 2015 is especially striking. Last season's away jersey from Macron was a fairly plain black jersey with bits of red and white trim to mark it as a Monaco product. This year's redesign is also traditional but bears Nike's cool and sleek design standards. The shirt has a blue body with black sleeves and narrow bands of red trim. It's a gorgeous new look for the 94-year-old Monaco club, and it can now be purchased from the Soccer Box online store!

New Home Shirt

The black and blue away jersey is not the only new Monaco soccer jersey that has made its way to the virtual shelves of the Soccer Box store in recent weeks. On the contrary, we also have Nike's take on Monaco's home football jersey.

The home jersey hasn't seen as much of a redesign as the Monaco away shirt 2014 2015 did in Nike's hands. The basic design a two-tone football shirt that is half white and half red, divided diagonally across the body of the shirt remains intact.

However, Nike has simplified and classed up the look for the new shirt keeping both sleeves white (even on the predominantly red half of the shirt) and ditching the kit sponsor (last year's was Fedcom) for a cleaner aesthetic.

A Trip Back to the Top

Last year's Monaco kits from Macron marked the team's triumphant return to Ligue 1. The club had finished the 2010 2011 season in dismal fashion with a record that saw three times as many draws and losses as it did wins. Monaco ended the year in the 18th place position on the Ligue 1 table and was relegated to Ligue 2 of French football.

Around the same time, Monaco's interests were sold to Dmitry Rybolovlev, a successful Russian investor with the goal of helping to rebuild the club. 2011 2012 saw Monaco struggling in Ligue 2 as well, but by 2012 2013, Rybolovlev had rebuilt his football organization to such a point that Monaco was ready to climb back up and seek redemption.

Redemption is precisely what Monaco has found over the past two seasons, winning the Ligue 2 title in resounding fashion in 2012 2013 and returning to Ligue 1 last year with a second place finish. Through it all, Macron's take on the Monaco soccer jersey became synonymous with the scrappy underdog version of the football team. Now, though, it's time for something different.

A Chance for Victory

With the sharp Nike redesign of the Monaco away shirt 2014 2015 and home shirt 2014 2015, it's clear that Monaco is ready to bid adieu to its "scrappy underdog" phase and say hello to a new championship era. Monaco hasn't won a Ligue 1 title since 2000, but this year, with a runner-up finish under its belt and a talented squad of players, the club will surely be making a bid to return to the top slot.

Monaco will, of course, miss some of the players that transferred away from Ligue 1 this summer. One of those was young striker James Rodriguez, who only spent one season at Monaco before becoming a star of the summer's World Cup. Rodriguez has now departed to La Liga club, Real Madrid.

The Monaco football club does still have Dimitar Berbatov, however. The Bulgarian striker only arrived at the club in January but scored 9 goals in just 15 appearances during his first half-season at Monaco. With Rodriguez gone, Berbatov is likely Monaco's best chance for not only having a star goal scorer but for winning a Ligue 1 title.
