Well, this is certainly an unexpected turn of events. A month and four matches into the 2015 2016 Italian Serie A, reigning league champions Juventus FC are nowhere to be found in the top 10, and Inter Milan are in the lead. Juve, of course, have won the past four Serie A titles. They are coming off a great season where they clinched the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italia and reached the finals in the UEFA Champions League. Internazionale, meanwhile, came in eighth place last season and have experienced a real rough path over the past few years. Everything, after month one of 2015 - 2016 Serie A appears to be upside down.

The Downfall of Juventus

It was pretty clear Juventus were headed toward trouble this summer when three of their best players-Carlos Tevez, Arturo Vidal, and Andrea Pirlo-all transferred to different football clubs. The Zebras still held on to a few of their biggest names (Gianluigi Buffon, Paul Pogba, and Alvaro Morata) and picked up a few promising transfers (particularly Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala, both forwards), but still couldn't compensate for losing guys like Vidal and Tevez.

The result has been the slowest of starts to the season. Juve lost their first two matches of the season and drew their
third, putting themselves in an unenviable position. They finally won a game in week four, beating Genoa in a September 20th away match.

Still, the club's two back-to-back losses at the start of the season mean they are short on points. Indeed, the Zebras only have four points in the Serie A standings tallies right now, leaving them stranded back at an unlucky 13th place. They'll have to string together a few more wins before we can even start talking about the possibility of a fifth straight national title for the soccer team.

The Rise of Inter Milan

In the meantime, the Serie A seems more open than it has in many years. With Juventus off their game, another football club might actually have a chance at stealing the frontrunner mantle. Inter Milan, it seems, are at the forefront of that race.

Internazionale, of course, had their own untouchable dynasty going not too long ago. They won five Serie A titles in a row from the 2005 2006 campaign to the 2009 2010 season. They also finished as the runners-up in 2010 2011, before tumbling to sixth place in 2012 and ninth the year
after that. Now, they are finally looking to get back into the soccer game.

Inter Milan have been just about perfect thus far, winning all four of their games and only allowing a single goal. Granted, the Black and Blues have been relying more on defense than offense and have only scored five goals in their four matches. Torino, the current second-place squad, have tallied nine, while Napoli, despite being stuck back in 11th place, have scored 10. But Internazionale's ability to give just enough to beat their opponents-they won two of their matches on last-minute goals-has served the team well so far.

The Rest of the Field

The surprises with the 2015 2016 Serie A don't stop with Juventus or Internazionale, either. On the
contrary, it's been surprising to see Torino, a middle-of-the-pack finisher from last season, soar to second place. It's been surprising to see Roma, runners-up the past two seasons, not taking advantage of Juve's downfall by leaping into first place. (They're currently in fourth, with two wins and two draws so far.) And it's been surprising to see Lazio and Napoli, both so strong last season, follow Juventus down the table.

What's next for the 2015 2016 Serie A? Is this year's Italian top-flight league as wide open as it seems right now, or will we see powerful clubs like Juventus and Roma making a comeback in the coming months? Could Inter Milan feasibly win their first national championship title since 2010?
