In the 16 days that span between Saturday, December 19th and Sunday, January 3rd, the English Premier League will blast through what amounts to four weeks of competitive play. While most of the world is on vacation, in other words, England's top football clubs are heading into one of the busiest periods of the year. The festive season in the Premier League can define many teams' campaigns for the year, meaning the stakes are high for every soccer club hitting the pitch this holiday season. Teams that find their groove in these two-plus weeks can leap their way up the table or barricade their positions at the top. Teams that hit a rough patch during the festive period, meanwhile, often take themselves out of title consideration.
How Things - December 11, 2015
Aston Villa were founding members of the Premier League in 1992 and have participated in every season of the division, avoiding relegation even when doing so seemed distinctly unlikely. Newcastle United, meanwhile, were early Premier League contenders, finishing as the league runners-up in both 1996 and 1997.
Needless to say, both of these teams have notable legacies in the EPL-not to mention a lot of adoring fans. Both clubs could be on their way to the Football League Championship after the 2015 2016 season, though. Fifteen matches into the current campaign, both Aston Villa and Newcastle United both face relegation and are struggling to find their groove.
Newcastle's Second Relegation?
In addition to their early Premier League success, Newcastle also had a solid run in the league in the early 2000s, scoring top five finishes in 2002, 2003, and 2004. However, the Magpies have been inconsistent at best for the past - December 02, 2015
An eventful weekend in the English Premier League 2015 - 2016 week 14 saw Leicester City's Jamie Vardy shattering a 12-year-old record and Manchester City reclaiming the peak position on the standings table, among other things.
11 Games in a Row
Vardy was deservedly the story of the week, much like he has been the top story in English football for the majority of the season. In the midst of a 1-1 draw between Leicester City and Manchester United, the 28-year-old striker scored his team's lone goal. It was the 11th league match in a row that saw Vardy finding the back of the net, an accomplishment that no - November 26, 2015
Manchester City and Arsenal-the football clubs that were sitting at the top of the Premier League table headed into this weekend-week 13 of 201516 EPL season proved to be thoroughly unlucky. Both teams lost, with Manchester City falling 1-4 against Liverpool and Arsenal stumbling to a 0-1 loss in an away game at West Bromwich Albion. The Sky Blues and the Gunners now occupy the third and fourth place spots on the table, respectively. It's the lowest Manchester City have dipped all season.
Lucky Leicester
For many of the other most notable soccer clubs in the Premier League, though, week 13 proved to be surprisingly full of luck. Topping the list of fortunate teams are Leicester City, who beat Newcastle United 3-0 to scoot into first - October 28, 2015
It was a big weekend for local derby games in the English Premier League. On one end of the spectrum, Manchester City and Manchester United battled for the league's top spot, with City ultimately coming out on top-for now, at least. On the other end of the spectrum, Newcastle United and Sunderland competed for a chance to escape the red zone in the Wear-Tyne Derby 2015.
The first Wear-Tyne Derby of the 2015 2016 season showed just how much North East England's football clubs have flopped this fall. Heading into the game, Newcastle United had only won one of their first nine games of the season. Sunderland, meanwhile, hadn't won any games. Sunderland were in dead last place, with only three points from the first nine fixtures. Newcastle United weren't doing much better, sitting in 18th with six points.
Stuck in the Red Zone
The best thing that can be said about the Wear-Tyne Derby is that - August 20, 2015
Newcastle United face tough fixtures in weeks three and four, how has the opening weeks gone? And can they score some points in the coming fixtures? After week one of the 2015 2016 Premier League, Newcastle United seemed to be off to a solid-enough start under the new management of Steve McClaren. They didn't nab a win in their opening fixture, but they did manage a 2-2 draw against Southampton-a team that beat them 4-0 last fall. All things considered, escaping that match with one point in the standings instead of zero was good news for the Magpies, and predicted a better season to come for the embattled football club.
Now, though, just a week and a half later, things are looking a good deal less promising for McClaren's soccer squad. Following an 0-2 loss against Swansea City this past weekend, the wearers of the Newcastle United shirt 2015 2016 are currently ranked in 15th place on the Premier League table. That fact, by itself, is no big deal: after - August 17, 2015
The transfer deadline for Premier League teams is September 1st, which means that Newcastle United still have a few weeks left to bring in some new talent for the 2015 2016 season. As is, it has been a busy Newcastle United summer transfer window 2015 so far, finalizing three fairly large signings, a fourth less expensive arrival, a handful of loans out, and the permanent departures of five different football players. Is there any more to come?
Transfers In
So far, new Magpies manager Steve McClaren has brought four new players to St. James' Park ahead of the 2015 2016 soccer season: midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, forwards Aleksander Mitrovic and Ivan Toney, and defender Chancel Mbemba.
Wijnaldum, who will don the Newcastle United home shirt 2015 2016 this season after having spent four seasons at PSV Eindhoven, is McClaren's most expensive signing of the summer, reportedly commanding a £14.5 million transfer fee. - July 28, 2015
Steve McClaren, Newcastle United's recently appointed manager, is marking his territory. Since taking over the head coach job at St. James' Park, McClaren has announced that Newcastle United sign Aleksandar Mitrovic and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, he is also reportedly eyeing a third (defender Chancel Mbemba), but they've been pricy. He laid down a reported £13 million and £14.5 million for Wijnaldum and Mitrovic, respectively, and will likely pay another £8.5million for Mbemba. And while those figures might not sound that lofty compared to what, say, Manchester City just paid for Raheem Sterling (£49 million), they are high compared to what Newcastle United has usually expended on new transfers in recent years.
The message that McClaren is sending is twofold. First, he wants fans and rival teams to know that he's not messing around; second, he is acknowledging the fact that the Magpies are in dire straits right now, and the only way out of rough waters is by - June 15, 2015
Big changes are on the way at Newcastle United as Steve McClaren not only takes over as head coach, but also fills owner Mike Ashley's spot on the club's Board of Directors. Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren will now be the only coach in the Premier League who is also a board member-a fact that the football club hopes will enhance communication and understanding throughout the entire organization.
The State of Affairs
McClaren comes to St. James' Park following one of the most tumultuous seasons in Newcastle United history. After the Magpies underperformed during the first half of the 2014 2015 season, manager Alan Pardew (who had been with Newcastle since 2010) resigned his post at the beginning of 2015, taking a job with Crystal Palace.
When Pardew left, Newcastle was in 10th place on the 2014 2015 Premier League table. Assistant coach John Carver took over as caretaker, but fortunes only declined - June 08, 2015
The kit manufacturers at Puma recently unveiled a brand new design for the Newcastle United home kit 2015 - 2016. The shirt mostly maintains the black and white vertical striping of the club's usual home shirts. However, with some striking bright blue detailing-including diagonal blue lines running across the vertical black stripes of the shirt-the Newcastle 2015 2016 home jersey also bears a more modern flare than its predecessors. You can order the new football shirt design today, from the Soccer Box online store!
A Quest for RedemptionÂ
The Magpies launched the 2015 2016 home jersey ahead of their final match of the 2014 2015 season, which took place on May 24th on the club's own St. James' Park. The new home shirt was shown off in an official video from the club, which featured 33-year-old captain and defender Fabricio Coloccini wearing the new jersey, shorts, and socks for the first
