The 2014 2015 Campaign
Still, while 11th place is nothing to be ashamed of for a recently promoted team, it's certainly lower than what the Eagles seemed capable of during the first half of the 2014 2015 season. Indeed, after a strong burst of play toward the end of last year, Palermo reached as high as eighth place in the league standings.
Since the start of 2015, the wearers of the Palermo shirt have struggled to make the same impression. Since December, they've only won five matches. Worse, they went nearly two months without a win, between February and April.
Recent Fixtures

Fast forward three weeks, though, and those two victories seem more like flukes than like a rally to reach the top 10. On April 26th, the Eagles lost a home game against Parma, and the following week, they settled for a 2-2 draw with Torino. Sassuolo
Even so, fans were hoping that things would improve this past weekend at Saturday's away fixture with Sassuolo. After all, when the Eagles played Sassuolo's Black and Greens in a home game last December, they had won 2-1.
That particular December fixture had been a real thriller for home fans at Palermo's Stadio Renzo Barbera. Early scores and late game, edge-of-your-seat excitement were nowhere to be found at Saturday's match, though. Palermo and Sassuolo shut down every offensive attack that the other team formulated. Worse, virtually every shot the Eagles took seemed to go wide. By the end of full time, the score was still stuck at 0-0.
The dull draw leaves the Eagles in 11th place on the 2014 2015 Serie A table, three points back from the nearest competitor with only four matches left to play this season.
