FC Porto is on their way to the quarterfinals in the 2014 2015 UEFA Champions League! The Portuguese football club won their March 10th home leg of the competition's "round of 16," beating out Swiss team Basel in a decisive 4-0 outcome. It will be the furthest into the UCL tournament that the Dragons have gotten since the 2008 2009 season. That's a fact that deserves celebrating, and you can show your support and appreciation for the football squad today, with a brand new Porto FC jersey from Soccer Box.
The Champions League quarterfinal will see two more competitive matches for the Dragons-one each at home and away. Soccer Box has both the blue and white Porto home shirt 2014 2015, and the two-tone blue away jersey available for purchase, as well as the pink 2014 2015 third shirt. Any of these jersey designs are perfect for supporting the FC Porto football squad, so make sure you pick yours up before quarterfinal play starts in mid-April.
Basel
The wearers of the Porto FC jersey were drawn to face Basel in the round of 16 after coming out on top of Group H in the earlier stages of the tournament. The Dragons were one of only three teams to escape from the groups without a loss, with the other two being defending champions Real Madrid and English contenders, Chelsea FC. In other words, Porto was in a pretty great position after winning Group H with four wins and two draws.
Porto picked up a third draw a few weeks ago, tying 1-1 with Basel at a February 18th away match. The game was almost a loss for the Dragons, after the home side took the lead at the 11-minute mark and held it for nearly 70 minutes of playtime. Porto's Danilo Luiz da Silva equalized on a penalty goal late in the contest, allowing his club to escape the match with a draw. Still, it was a close call for the Portuguese team.
"Close call," though, would not be anyone's term to describe the March 10th leg of the round of 16. Taking their own pitch at Estadio do Dragao, and clad proudly in the Porto home shirt 2014 2015, the Dragons looked ready and determined to score a victory. After all, the winner of this fixture would be progressing to the 2014 2015 Champions League quarterfinal, and Porto had the home field advantage.
They started using that advantage right away, starting the game with an offensive furor that culminated in an early goal for attacking midfielder Yacine Brahimi. It was the only point scored by either side in the first half of the soccer match.
Second Half Action
It wasn't until the second 45 minutes of the fixture, though, that the Dragons really gave fans in the Porto FC jersey reason to cheer. Starting with a 47-minute goal from midfielder Hector Miguel Herrera, Porto kicked off a tremendous half-hour burst of momentum that also included goals from Casemiro and Vincent Aboubakar.
By the time the game had reached its final 10 minutes, the home squad was up four points to nothing. It had been a tough match for Basel up to that point, not only lacking in successful offensive plays, but also plagued with fouls. Four players on the Swiss team got yellow cards during the contest, and one of them-Walter Samuel-was even ejected from the football fixture with a red card just before regulation time ran out.
Not that it will matter much for the Swiss soccer squad: with the aggregate score at 5-1 for the total round of 16, the team has officially been eliminated from the 2014 2015 UCL tournament. The Dragons, meanwhile, will advance to April's quarterfinal round. Make sure you have your Porto home shirt 2014 2015 ready to cheer them on!
