The Portugal national soccer team played their 1st international in 1921 where they lost to neighbours Spain. They have qualified for the FIFA World Cup on 5 occasions but have never won the prestigious trophy.

Qualification is well under way for the 20th World Cup that will be held in Brazil in 2014, however, they are not yet guaranteed their place in the finals.

The traditional colors of the home Portugal soccer jersey are those of the national flag of Portugal. The shirt is red, the shorts have been red or green in the past.

The current kits are manufactured by American sportswear giants Nike. Fans can support the team and shop for the shirts in adults and boys sizes or buy the full kit for younger fans from licensed retailers such as Soccer Box.

The kids Portugal football kit is a great value set that is perfect for fans aged 3-8 years.

This is a full strip containing the shirt, shorts and socks for 1 low price. This season's kit is primarily red with green trim around the rounded neckline and tops of the socks.

As an official product the Nike logo and team crests are placed on the shirt and shorts. This is a fantastic purchase for young fans watching the World Cup qualifiers.

The best World Cup finish for the team that wear the Portugal soccer jersey was in 1966, they met the eventual winners England at Wembley in the Semi-Finals where they lost 2-1.

Since 2002 they have consistently qualified for the final stages of each tournament.

Ranking in 4th in Germany in 2006, but only reaching the last 16 in 2010, it remains to be seen whether they will qualify for Brazil 2014.

The Portuguese were drawn in qualifying group F along with Russia, Israel, Azerbaijan, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg.

Their 1st match in September 2012 was away from home against Luxembourg, they made a great start winning this game 2-1 and taking away their valuable 1st 3 points. They also won the 2nd game against Azerbaijan at home.

The next set of games in October 2012 weren't as successful; they lost against Russia and only managed a draw with Northern Ireland.

Both home and away matches with Israel ended in draws but the team wearing the Portugal soccer jerseys managed to win 6 out of their 10 matches.

This gave them a total of 21 points, unfortunately Russia surpassed this with 22 points meaning Portugal were headed for the play offs.

After the final round of games on Monday 21st October 2013 the play off draw took place.

The draw is for the top 8 2nd place teams, each will play a home and away match to determine the 4 winning teams that will secure qualification and progress to the World Cup finals in Brazil 2014.

The fans will watch their team take on Sweden.

Sweden were drawn in Group C alongside Germany, Austria, Republic of Ireland, Kazakhstan and Faroe Irelands. Sweden won 6, lost 2 and drew 2 of their matches giving them 20 points putting them 2nd behind group leaders Germany.

The playoff between these 2 teams will be the hardest fought of the play off matches, will the fans clad in the Portugal soccer jersey be celebrating after the final whistle?

The 2 matches will be played in 15th and 19th November. This is tough contest with no firm favorite.

Both teams have top stars with Cristiano Ronaldo wearing the Portugal soccer jersey and Ibrahimovich in the Sweden kit.

Although they lost more games Group C was a far tougher option and the Swiss team performed well even recovering from a 4-0 deficit against Germany to end the game in a 4-4 draw.

Small fans in their kids Portugal football kit, children and adults a like are bound to be on the edge of their seats, cheering for the team as they are desperately hoping Ronaldo can add to his score tally and lead the team to victory.

If Portugal can succeed in beating Sweden they will need to up their game and improve on their qualification performances if they are to pose a serious threat in the finals in Brazil next summer.

What did you think of the Portuguese teams performance throughout qualifying?

Do you think they can beat Sweden and progress to Brazil 2014?
