For a good portion of the 2014 2015 season, Olympique Marseille were leading the way in the French Ligue 1. By winning eight matches in a row between late August and late October, Marseille established a lead that held throughout the 2014 portion of the season. Indeed, when the league broke for Christmas and New Year's, the Olympians were still holding down the top spot, with defending champions Paris Saint Germain stuck back at third. During the second half of the season, though, Olympique Marseille were markedly less consistent, dropping to fourth place by the time the 2014 2015 Ligue 1 had wrapped up in late May. Paris Saint Germain, meanwhile, made a comeback to win a third straight French soccer championship. And now after a strong start PSG continue 2015 - 2016 Ligue 1 domination with a win over the Olympians.

PSG's Spotless Season

PSG Away Shirt 2015 - 2016It looks like Marseille's free-fall is continuing, while PSG continue to dominate France's top-flight football league. The Parisians have been in impressive form since the 2015 2016 campaign began back in August, winning seven of their nine matches and drawing the other two. Their current point total of 23 is five points clear of any other football club in the league.

Paris Saint Germain's seventh win of the season came on Sunday, October 4th when they met Olympique Marseille head-to-head for the first time since April. The loss drops Marseille to 16th place on the table, as the football club have only managed to take eight points from their first nine fixtures. At the moment, Olympique have two wins, two draws, and five losses on their record for the 2015 2016 season.

Even when Olympique Marseille were playing very well last season, they still couldn't beat Paris Saint Germain. The Parisians won both of their matches with Marseille during the 2014 2015 season, and haven't lost to the Olympians at all since 2011. In fact, Sunday's soccer game marked PSG's eighth consecutive win against Olympique.

A Come-from-Behind Victory

While Paris Saint Germain have been utterly dominant against Olympique Marseille over the past four years, they still had to come from behind to win the game on Sunday. Donning the PSG home jersey 2015 2016 for the contest, the Parisians were maybe a bit surprised at how ready to play the Olympians were from the get-go.

In fact, the PSG home team maybe even looked a bit outplayed during the early portions of the match, with midfielder Lukas Silva looking particularly threatening during the first 10 minutes. It was ultimately striker Michy Batshuayi who gave Marseille the lead, though, heading the ball into the net at the half-hour mark.

While the Olympians owned the first half hour of the match, though, Paris Saint Germain took control pretty quickly after Batshuayi's goal. 38 minutes in, both teams had taken six shots on goal and possession had been pretty even, but PSG were beginning to turn up the heat on their opponents.

Then, at the 41-minute mark, the home team got the golden opportunity. Olympique goalkeeper Steve Mandanda collided with PSG's Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in an attempt to stop a dangerous attack, and picked up a yellow card. The booking earned Ibrahimovic a penalty goal, which he converted to equalize the score.

Just minutes later, another penalty for PSG put Ibrahimovic back in the shooting spot. Once again, he converted, putting the Parisians in the lead just before halftime. More PSG Home Shirt 2015 - 2016importantly, though, the goal made Ibrahimovic the all-time leading goalscorer at Paris Saint Germain, surpassing Pauleta's previous record of 109.

The second half was less eventful, with neither team adding to their point totals. Marseille had a good opportunity in the early minutes of the half when Abdelaziz Barrada got a chance at a penalty goal of his own. The shot was good, but an impressive diving save from PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp denied the point and ultimately helped the Parisians score their 2-1 win.

Olympique Marseille played well here-much better than their current record and Ligue 1 placement would have predicted. Ultimately, though, it was PSG's game and looks to be PSG's season, as well.
