Wayne Rooney has made it quite clear now that he would like to leave Manchester United, so why is everybody trying to stop him?
Well there are a number of reasons that the Red devils would probably like to keep hold of the 27 year old striker. One is his goal scoring record; the Englishman has now scored 141 goals for the club in 277 domestic appearances. Since moving from Everton in 2004 Rooney started to impress football fans from all over the world, many teams were after him and he had played for the senior England team since 2003, he is a world class player.Rooney has always been known to get rather hot-headed during matches and over the past 2012-13 season he has not seemed happy at Manchester United at all. It all went downhill for Wayne since former Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie joined the team at the start of the 12-13 season.
Rooney did start the first match of the season against Everton but was dropped for the second match against Fulham, allowing RVP to make his debut for the club. Ever since Van Persie seemed to have become the firm favourite in the eyes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Rooney seemed to just be warming the bench. All Rooney wanted to do was play in his Manchester United home football shirt with pride at Old Trafford. He must have felt pushed out with the likes of RVP joining the side when he was used to having no competition for first choice striker. With constant injuries also keeping him out of the team Rooney decided enough was enough and on the 12th May 2013 Sir Alex Ferguson announced that the 27 Year old had handed in a transfer request after he had also requested not to play against Swansea City the same day.
Sir Alex Ferguson, the former Manchester United manager announced that him and the club had rejected the transfer request from Wayne and that they did not want the striker to go. A comment stated "We are not going to let him go but he is a little bit frustrated at being taken off once or twice in the last few weeks." This is not the first time he has handed in a request it is the second formal request from the striker in three years. After Rooney's request the player has been linked with plenty of big clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG being three of them. Arsenal seem to be in the middle of it all, manager Arsene Wenger even publicly expressed his love for the England international and admired his football.
Near to the end of the 2013-13 season Manchester United manager Sir Alex Frguson announced his retirement much to the shock of the fans. Shortly afterwards ex Everton boss David Moyes was unveiled as the new manager at Old Trafford. It is going to be up to Moyes, Rooney's former manager to talk to him and sort out what he really wants. The United fans are disappointed in Wayne, after he showed such promising football the supporters loved him and since his request he has received boos. Neymar, the Brazilian superstar who joined Spanish giants Barcelona a few weeks ago has said that he would love Rooney to move to Barcelona with him. He has urged the striker to join the La Liga team and thinks he would fit in perfectly there. The new boss has started his new job today at the Carrington training ground and he has said the first thing on his agenda is Wayne Rooney, looks like we will be hearing the news on the future of the international very soon, good luck to him wherever he chooses to go.
