The Spain national football team has been in something of a decline ever since their early shock elimination from the 2014 World Cup. The football squad is staying alive in the qualifying rounds for UEFA's 2016 European Championship, and notched their first competitive win of 2015 on Friday in a home game against Ukraine. But is the Red Fury still one of the dominant forces of global football? Will they have a shot at defending their two consecutive European Championship titles next year in France? Only time will tell, but you can help the team by showing off your support with a new supply of Spain soccer apparel.

Ukraine

When the Red Fury arrived on the pitch for Friday's home match against Ukraine, they were playing their first football as a team in 2015. They hadn't played at all since a November 18th, 2014 friendly fixture with Germany, and hadn't participated in a competitive match since a November 15th qualifier against Belarus.

Needless to say, fans in the stands at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan were decked out in Spain soccer apparel and ready to see their squad make a grand return. The Spain national side had a mediocre year in 2014, and supporters were hoping for a fresh start with 2015.

The Red Fury got things off to decent start for their first game in 2015, but they could certainly do better. In a match that was more about defense than offense, Spain beat the Ukrainian away squad one point to nothing. The lone goal was scored by Alvaro Morata, who found the back of the net at the 28-minute mark, taking the pressure off the home side early on.

The Qualifiers

As far as Euro 2016 qualification is concerned, the 1-0 victory over Ukraine is great news for the wearers of the Spain away jersey 2014 2015. It leaves them with four wins and one loss out of the five qualifying matches they've played so far.

Still, the game may have been a sign that the Spaniards are not the dominant force in world football that they once were. The Red Fury topped the podium at European Championship in both 2008 and 2012. Right now, they aren't even topping their own qualifying group.

Indeed, in Group C, the leading team is Slovakia, with five wins, zero draws, zero losses, and a goal difference rating of +9. Spain, meanwhile, is in second place, thanks to a 1-2 away loss against Slovakia back in October.

Of course, second place isn't a bad place to be, or a sign that you should be selling off your Spain soccer apparel just yet. On the contrary, the Spanish national side is still in good standing to qualify for Euro 2016, and still has time to surpass Slovakia on the Group C rankings.

The only concern is that, with the number of star players that have left Spain's national soccer squad in the past year-the team lost David Villa, Xavi Hernandez, and Xabi Alonso after the 2014 World Cup-they may not be able to win a third consecutive European Championship next year. Then again, they've won big in a few of the qualifiers so far, topping Macedonia 5-1 in a home game, and crushing Luxembourg 4-0 in an away fixture.

Still holding out hope for the continued football dominance of Spain? Get ready for their next game, with some new official apparel. The next Euro qualifier is scheduled for Saturday, June 16th, when the Red Fury will don the Spain away jersey 2014 2015 and take on Belarus!
