The 13th CONCACAF Gold Cup is on the way for the summer of 2015, and the Trinidad and Tobago national soccer team is preparing for the event with the hopes of netting a best-ever finish. The Soca Warriors finished in third place back in 2000, so a trip to the finals is the big hope for this year. Help the underrated soccer team reach that goal, by picking up a brand new Trinidad and Tobago football shirt at Soccer Box.
Soccer Box recently received a new shipment of 2015 2016 jersey designs from Trinidad and Tobago's jersey manufacturer, Joma. The new shirt variations are eye-catching and impressive, whether you prefer the primarily red Trinidad and Tobago home jersey 2015 2016, or the primarily white away shirt. Pick whichever brand new shirt you prefer (or pick both) to get ready for this summer's action at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
CONCACAF Gold Cup History
Since the inception of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1991, the Soca Warriors have appeared in eight incarnations of the tournament. Summer 2015 will mark the country's ninth appearance in the event.
The wearers of the Trinidad and Tobago football shirt were there in 1991 for the inaugural Gold Cup-though they didn't make it far. In fact, in the country's first three appearances in the event-1991, 1996, and 1999-they were eliminated during the group stage.
It wasn't until 2000 that the Soca Warriors really found their groove at CONCACAF. At a tournament hosted in the United States, Trinidad topped Guatemala and Costa Rica to earn a spot in the semifinals. There, they lost to eventual champions Canada in a close 0-1 battle. However, they did edge out the other semifinal loser, Peru, in order to earn a third place ranking in the event.
That third place legacy is something that fans in the new Trinidad and Tobago home jersey still remember well and are hoping to see again. And for good reason: the Soca Warriors haven't returned to the semifinals since. In 2002, 2005, and 2007, they made it into the tournament, but were eliminated after the group stage. And in 2003, 2009, and 2011, they missed out on qualification altogether.
The 2013 Tournament
If you are shopping for a 2015 2016 Trinidad and Tobago football shirt, the good news is that the team saw an uptick of success at the last Gold Cup tournament. In 2013, the soccer squad made it into the event after two missed qualifications in a row.
The Tobago side made the best of the opportunity. They came in second place in their group stage draw (which included Honduras, El Salvador, and Haiti) to reach the knockout phase for the first time in over a decade. The football team ultimately lost 0-1 to Mexico in the quarterfinals, but it was nice for fans to see their country make it that far anyway.
The 2015 Group Stage
This year, the Soca Warriors are preparing to don the Trinidad and Tobago home jersey 2015 2016 for yet another CONCACAF Gold Cup. Unlike last time, though, supporters of the soccer squad are not just happy to see their team in the tournament. This time, Tobago fans are looking for a landmark finish.
The Trinidad national football team will have their work cut out for them in the group stage, if they are indeed going to reach the semifinals or beyond in 2015. The country has been drawn into Group C, which also includes Mexico, Guatemala, and Cuba.
The good news is that the Soca Warriors will get to play the easier matches first, which should help them to build momentum and prepare for the harder games down the line. On July 9th, they'll wear the 2015 2016 home jersey for a contest with Guatemala; on July 12th, they will don the home shirt once again, this time for a game with Cuba; and on July 15th, fans will be bedecked in the 2015 2016 away jersey for a high-stakes battle with Mexico.
Wins in any or all of those games would obviously be great news for the wearers of the Trinidad and Tobago football shirt. However, a victory against Mexico would be the most rewarding, considering how the Trinidad and Tobago squad was eliminated from the last CONCACAF Gold Cup.
