Manchester United might have been the most buzz-worthy of all of England's football clubs on transfer deadline day, setting a record for the biggest transfer fee ever paid for a teenager (19-year-old forward Anthony Martial, on his way from Monaco £36 million) and trying to execute a goalkeeper swap with Real Madrid that fell apart in the late hours of the day. However, the West Ham United deadline day transfers 2015 definitely made them the most fruitful of any Premier League teams, completing four signings on September 1st to further flesh out their 2015 2016 soccer squad.

West Ham United followed an interesting arc during the first month of the 2015 2016 Premier League, managing decisive victories in their two toughest matches (away games against Arsenal and Liverpool) but losing their "easier" fixtures (home matches with Leicester City and Bournemouth). Despite the confusing nature of those four football games, though, the 2-0 win at Arsenal and the 3-0 triumph over Liverpool showed that West Ham had clear potential to excel this season.

A Busy Deadline Day

The Hammers, who finished in 12th place in the 2014 2015 Premier League, evidently wanted insurance in place to make sure that they can live up to that potential. They made four signings on deadline day, including two full transfers (Hull City striker Nikica Jelavic and Nottingham Forest winger Michail Antonio) and two loans (Chelsea winger Victor Moss and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song).

The four players join nine other transfers or loans that West Ham had completed earlier in the summer transfer season. But will all of the incoming talent help boost West Ham into the Premier League's top 10 (or better yet, top five), or will they continue to be inconsistent, as they have been during the first month of competition?

West Ham's Summer 2015 Transfer Slate

On the one hand, West Ham's transfer and loan slate doesn't have any huge, high-profile signings on it. The football club's most expensive transfer of the summer (at least of the fees that have been publicly disclosed) was Juventus centerback Angelo Ogbonna, for whom the Hammers paid a reported £10 million.

Also on board for West Ham United's 2015 2016 are left back Stephen Hendrie (from Hamilton Academical); goalkeeper Daren Randolph (Birmingham City); center midfielder Pedro Obiang (Sampdoria); attacking midfielders Marin Samuelsen (Manchester City), Dimitri Payet (Marseille), and Manuel Lanzini (Al Jazira); right back Carl Jenkison (Arsenal); and center back George Dobson (Arsenal).

Aside from Ogbonna-who will hopefully help to breathe some new life into a West Ham defense that allowed 47 goals last season-we are perhaps most intrigued by the club's deadline day signings. Last season alone, Jelavic, Antonio, and Moss scored 27 goals between them (in overall tallies for their respective clubs). Since West Ham's top scorer for the 2014 2015 season (Diafra Sakho) scored only 11 goals across all competitions, the football club clearly has room to grow offensively this year. Hopefully, their deadline day signings will help with that mission.

The first of West Ham's summer transfers to score was Manuel Lanzini, who is on loan to the soccer club from United Arab Emirates team, Al Jazira. Lanzini, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder, netted his first goal for the Hammers just three minutes into their August 29th match against Liverpool. Unfortunately, he also picked up a yellow card in the same match, but his early score was still a notable moment. We hope to see similarly great moments for the rest of the players in West Ham United's busy 2015 summer transfer group.

With their deadline day signings considered, do you think the Hammers have built a top-tier team for the 2015 2016 season? Or does this football club need to be willing to spend more money (like the heavyweight teams from Manchester, for instance) to be able to compete in England's top-flight soccer division?
