Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Portugal in 1985, he began his football career aged 8 playing as amateur for Andorinha.  In 1997 he was signed by Sporting Clube de Portugal, where he played in the youth teams as well as the B and first team.  In the year 2000 at age 15 Ronaldo's football career could have been over when he was diagnosed with a heart condition, however after a successful operation to resolve the problem Ronaldo has now become one of the most successful footballers in the world.  Ronaldo became Manchester United's first ever Portuguese player when he signed with them in 2003 for a transfer fee of £12m.  He immediately made an impact at Manchester United and helped them win the Premier League for three successive seasons from 2007-2009, along with the UEFA Champions League in 2007/8 amongst other achievements.  In 2007 rumours began to circulate about a possible move to Real Madrid, however Ronaldo signed a new contract with Manchester United worth £120,000 a week, making him the highest paid footballer ever.  Finally after more speculation during 2008 Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in July 2009 for a record breaking £80m transfer fee.

Ronaldo's time wearing a Real Madrid Kit has been a roller coaster ride he helped the team win the Copa del Ray in 2010/11 and they were La Liga champions the following season, UEFA Champions league success has however alluded Real Madrid since Ronaldo joined the side.  Real Madrid have been knocked out of this years Champions League competition at the semi-final stage by Borussia Dortmund. Ronaldo however didn't let this get him down and earlier this week he proudly wore his Real Madrid kit against Malaga who they beat 6-2, during the match Ronaldo netted his 200th goal for the club.  Ronaldo has scored his 200 goals in only 197 appearances giving him the achievement of fewest matches played to score 200 goals.

Rumours have been rife this week that Ronaldo is considering handing his Real Madrid kit back and rejoining Manchester United.  Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in March during a Champions League match, this was said to be an emotional time for Ronaldo who, upon hearing his former bosses retirement announcement posted on twitter 'Thanks for everything boss".  Reports in the British media claim that Manchester United are "close to securing the return of Cristiano Ronaldo", however Karanka the Real Madrid assistant manager insists Ronaldo belongs at Real Madrid.  Upon scoring his 200th goal at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo's celebration involved repeatedly pointing at the badge on his Real Madrid kit and the turf of the Bernabeu stadium, with the Spanish media also claiming he was shouting "me, here" this is being interpreted in Spain as Ronaldo claiming he will be staying at Real Madrid.

With Alex Ferguson retiring from Manchester United, a strong possibility of Mourinho leaving Real Madrid, and the rumour mill going into over drive ahead of the transfer window opening it will be an exciting summer for football.
